To treat all sores and ulcers, immediately apply this method; there is no case that does not heal. The procedure is as follows: Instruct the patient to rest their elbow on a table, raise their arm, and ensure the wrist remains straight. Take a strip of bamboo (bamboo shaving), starting from the transverse crease at the bend of the wrist, measuring along the skin for males on the left hand and females on the right hand, up to the tip of the middle finger. Cut the strip at this point to serve as the standard length, excluding the fingernail.
Next, take a bamboo pole. Have the patient remove their clothing and sit upright astride the pole. Two people should lift the pole from the front and back so that the patient's feet do not touch the ground, while two others support the patient to prevent them from stooping or bending forward. Then, place the previously measured bamboo strip against the spine, starting from the sitting area of the pole (the end of the coccyx) and extending upwards along the back until the end of the strip. Mark this point with an ink pen. This step is merely to locate the midline of the spine, not to identify an acupoint for moxibustion.
Subsequently, make a "zezi" (measuring gauge) from a thin bamboo strip by measuring the middle segment of the patient's middle finger, using the distance between the two transverse creases as one unit ("ze"). For males, use the left hand; for females, the right hand. Cut this segment to form one unit. On either side of the previously marked midline point, measure one unit outward in each direction. The endpoints are the moxibustion acupoints. Apply five to seven moxa cones (zhuang) to each acupoint. If the carbuncle appears on the left, moxa the right side; if on the right, moxa the left side. In severe cases, moxa both sides. These two points lie along the pathway of the Heart meridian. All sores and carbuncles are caused by toxic stagnation of Heart fire. Moxibustion here promotes the free flow of Heart fire, thereby dispersing the toxin. This method has repeatedly proven effective in saving lives.
My commentary: In the aforementioned condition, if the pathogenic toxin has been resolved but the flesh fails to regenerate, one should seek the corresponding organ system and apply tonification.
Figure 1 Description:
Males use the left hand, females use the right hand. First, flex the middle finger. Use a thin bamboo strip to measure the middle segment of the finger. The distance between the two transverse creases at the ends of this segment is defined as "one body-inch" (tongshen cun), which serves as the standard for making the measuring gauge.
Figure 2 Description:
Start from the transverse crease at the wrist bend of the male's left hand or female's right hand. Use a thin bamboo strip to measure up to the fleshy end of the middle finger, excluding the nail. Cut the strip at this length to serve as the standard.
Figure 3 Description:
First, have the patient remove their clothing. Position a large bamboo pole across the patient. Two people slowly lift the pole so that the feet are suspended approximately five inches above the ground. Two other people stand by to support and stabilize the patient, preventing any shaking or instability. Then, place the measuring gauge made in Figure 1 against the bamboo pole, starting from the weili (tailbone end), and measure upwards along the spine to the end of the gauge. Mark this position with ink. This is not the moxibustion acupoint but rather the midpoint reference. Next, take the "body-inch" gauge from Figure 2, fold it to represent two inches, and from the midpoint mark, measure one inch to each side. These lateral points are the actual moxibustion acupoints.
