For drugs with heavy and turbid properties, they can purge in all internal organs; therefore, they also do not belong to specific meridians.

When a carbuncle or ulcer first appears, after examining the symptoms and determining the treatment, one drug must be used as the guiding agent (shi yao). For example, Shen Shou Wei Sheng San uses Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), and Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma); Fu Jian San uses Cangzhu; Shiquan Dabu Tang uses Xiakucao; La Fan Wan is taken with Ju Hua Tang (Chrysanthemi Flos decoction); Tong Sheng San uses Loulu and similar herbs. Each of these guiding herbs is taken in an amount of one liang, decocted into soup, and then used to decoct the other group of medicines. The response is immediate and effective; this is the secret method of Fei Xia Zi. Dan Xi stated: E'jiao Yin and Niu Jiao Wan belong to Metal and Earth elements, solidify the Large Intestine, strengthen the Stomach, and stop diarrhea; Huang La Wan enters the Large Intestine with tonifying effects; Guo Lao Gao (Licorice preparation) resolves toxins and unblocks meridians; Yuan Zhi Jiu and Jinyinhua Jiu both have tonifying properties, returning blood to the Heart. Skilled practitioners use them in combinations. They achieve rapid results in dissipating nodules in early-stage ulcers and tonifying deficiency in late-stage ulcers. One should apply this principle by analogy. Furthermore, for various toxins arising on the vertex of the head, all medicines are suitable for wine soaking, wine frying, wine decocting, or wine administration as guiding agents or due to their nature, because "what is above should be raised" (referring to using wine's ascending property).
Ancient texts state: "Diaphoresis cures the sore," applicable when there are exterior manifestations of the Six Meridians, no internal obstruction of urination or defecation, normal diet, and regulated bowel movements, indicating the pathogen is not in the interior. If the left pulse is surging and slow, and the guan position pulse is wiry, it indicates external pathogenic invasion; thus, diaphoresis is appropriate to unblock Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) and expel the pathogen. In winter, cold causes the pores to close; pungent-warm formulas such as Tuo Li Wen Zhong Tang and Gan Zhu Dan must be used to support and release. It is also said: Supporting the exterior does not aim at inducing sweat, as drugs like Chan Su (Toad Venom), Zhu Sha (Cinnabar), and Xiong Huang (Realgar) are detoxifying agents, which are harsh diaphoretic agents. It is further said: Patients with sores who experience body pain should not undergo diaphoresis; doing so leads to spasms because there is no exterior syndrome. Even if an exterior syndrome exists, profuse sweating should be avoided; excessive sweating causes exterior deficiency and prevents pus formation, making subsequent treatment difficult. After sweating, if urination is difficult, stopping the sweat allows Yang Qi to recover, and urination becomes normal.
