This is blood deficiency in the Heart Meridian. The prescription is as follows:
*Ren Shen* (Ginseng Radix, 3 qian), *Dan Pi* (Moutan Cortex, 2 qian), *Mai Dong* (Ophiopogonis Tuber, 3 qian), *Gan Cao* (Licorice Root, 1 qian), *Fu Shen* (Poria with Hostwood, 3 qian), *Sheng Zao Ren* (Raw Ziziphus Seed, 5 qian), *Shu Zao Ren* (Processed Ziziphus Seed, 5 qian), *Shi Chang Pu* (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 1 qian), *Dang Gui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 3 qian), *Wu Wei Zi* (Schisandrae Fructus, 2 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
The brilliance of this formula lies in the use of both raw and processed Ziziphus seeds (*Ziziphi Spinosae Semen*). The raw seed prevents sleep during the day, while the processed seed prevents waking at night. Combined with herbs that tonify the Heart, palpitations (Zhen Tong) are thereby stabilized.
This is a Heart disease that is essentially also a Kidney disease. It is appropriate to treat both the Heart and the Kidney simultaneously. The prescription is as follows:
*Ren Shen* (Ginseng Radix, 3 liang), *Fu Ling* (Poria, 3 liang), *Fu Shen* (Poria with Hostwood, 3 liang), *Yuan Zhi* (Polygalae Radix, 2 liang), *Sheng Zao Ren* (Raw Ziziphus Seed, 1 liang), *Shu Di Huang* (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix, 3 liang). Processed into pills with refined honey. Take 5 qian daily, which can be taken with decoction or wine.
This formula treats heart fright, uneasiness, and insomnia. Using *Ren Shen*, *Fu Shen*, *Dang Gui*, and *Mai Dong* would suffice; even if insomnia is caused by fire, adding a small amount of *Rou Gui* (Cinnamon Twig) to guide fire back to its source is correct, but one must also consider the Liver...
There are two types of Heart pain: one is caused by cold pathogen invading the Heart, and the other by fire pathogen burning the Heart. In cases where cold invades the Heart, the hands and feet may actually feel warm; in cases where fire burns the Heart...
*Liáng Jiāng* (Galangal Rhizome, 3 qian), *Rou Gui* (Cinnamon Twig, 1 qian), *Bai Zhu* (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 3 qian), *Cao Wu* (Aconiti Radix Preparata, 1 qian), *Cang Zhu* (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 3 qian), *Guan Zhong* (Cyatheae Spora, 2 qian), *Gan Cao* (Licorice Root, 1 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
*Hei Zhi* (Black Gardenia Fruit, 3 qian), *Bai Shao* (White Peony Root, 2 liang), *Ban Xia* (Pinelliae Tuber, 1 qian), *Chai Hu* (Bupleuri Radix, 1 qian), *Gan Cao* (Licorice Root, 1 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
This is a Liver disease. Therefore, treating hypochondriac pain requires soothing the Liver, and soothing the Liver requires nourishing the Kidney. When Kidney Water is sufficient, Liver Qi receives nourishment, and hypochondriac pain heals itself without direct treatment.
*Shu Di Huang* (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix, 1 liang), *Bai Shao* (White Peony Root, 2 liang), *Dang Gui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang), *Bai Jie Zi* (Sinapis Semen, 3 qian), *Hei Zhi* (Black Gardenia Fruit, 1 qian), *Shan Yu Rou* (Corni Fructus, 5 qian)...
