The blood of the Foot-Shaoyin (Kidney) meridian nourishes the hair externally. When Qi and Blood are abundant, the hair is lustrous and moist; if deficient, the blood cannot nourish the hair, resulting in a lack of luster and moisture. In such cases, medicinal treatment is required.
[Formula for Blackening, Smoothing, and Moistening Hair: Lingling Xiang You Fang (Linglingxiang Oil Formula)]
Ingredients: Zhenlingxiang (Lysimachiae Herba, 零陵香) (ban liang), Wuma You (Sesamum Indicum Oil, 乌麻油) (yi liang or dou), Maoxiang (Agastaches Herba, 茅香) (ban liang), Lianzicao (Commelinae Herba, 莲子草) (yi liang), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 细辛) (ban liang), Gaoben (Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix, 藁本) (ban liang), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 附子) (yi liang), Suan Shiliu (Punica Granatum, 酸石榴) (appropriate amount).
Preparation and Administration: Finely chop the above herbs, wrap them together with plowshare iron pieces (Huatie) in cotton cloth, and soak them in the oil for forty-nine days. Once prepared, use frequently to comb the hair. Persisting for one year yields particularly effective results.
[Formula for Soaking Oil to Promote Hair Growth, Blacken, and Add Luster: Jin You Chang Fa Fang]
Ingredients: Sheng Ma You (Sesamum Indicum Oil, 生麻油) (wu liang or sheng), Gan Sangshen (Mori Fructus, 干桑椹) (yi liang), Zhizi Hua (Gardeniae Flos, 栀子花) (yi liang), Suan Shiliu Hua (Punica Granatum Flos, 酸石榴花) (yi liang), Helile Pi (Terminalia Chebula Pericarpium, 诃黎勒皮) (yi liang), Gen (Puerariae Radix, 葛根) (yi liang), Sheng Tie (Raw Iron, 生铁) (appropriate amount).
Preparation and Administration: Finely chop the above herbs, wrap them together with raw iron in cotton cloth, and soak them in the oil for forty-nine days. Once prepared, use frequently to comb the hair. Persisting for one year yields particularly effective results.
[Formula for Promoting Hair Growth, Blackening, and Adding Luster: Wubi Shenyan Fang]
Ingredients: Yangfen (Ovis Caprae Hirci Excrementum, 羊粪) (er liang ban, half calcined, half raw), Wasong (Sedum Acre, 瓦松) (er liang ban, half calcined to ash, half air-dried), Tiefen (Ferrum Oxydatum Rubrum, 铁粉) (er liang), Hutao Ren (Juglandis Semen, 胡桃仁) (yi sheng or jin), Huaijiao (Sophorae Flavescentis Gum, 槐胶) (yi liang or er liang).
Preparation and Administration: Sieve the first three ingredients finely into powder. Mash the Hutao Ren and Huaijiao together into a paste. Fill this mixture tightly into a small-mouthed bottle. [Text missing here, likely referring to mixing with an oil or liquid].
[Cold Oil Head Application Formula for Treating Wind, Nourishing Hair, Preventing Whitening, and Adding Luster: Zhi Feng Yi Fa Fang]
Ingredients: Gan Lianzicao (Commelinae Herba, 干莲子草) (ban liang), Manjingzi (Viticis Fructus, 蔓荆子), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 细辛), Gaoben (Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix, 藁本), Baiziren (Platycladi Semen, 柏子仁), Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 川芎), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 白芷), Gansongxiang (Nardostachyos Radix et Rhizoma, 甘松香), Zhenlingxiang (Lysimachiae Herba, 零陵香), Baitanxiang (Santalum Album Lignum, 白檀香) (appropriate amount).
Preparation and Administration: Coarsely chop all the above herbs, wrap them with plowshare iron pieces in cotton cloth, and soak them in five jin of clear oil in a porcelain vessel for half a month. Once prepared, apply frequently to the head. After one month, [results will be observed].
This formula is suitable for conditions where blood vessels are extremely deficient, causing the hair at the temples to lose its luster and moisture.
[Mulberry Root Bark Hair Wash Formula]
