In cases where the occipital bone of a newborn infant is underdeveloped, death will occur after the child gains the ability to speak. If the knee bones are underdeveloped, death will follow after the child can squat. If the palm bones are underdeveloped, death will ensue after the child learns to crawl. If the calcaneus (heel bone) is underdeveloped, accompanied by a weak cry and lack of blood luster, this also indicates premature death.
Regarding wet nurses, their Qi and Blood transform into breast milk. The manifestation of the Five Emotions (Joy, Anger, Worry, Thought, Fear) as good or bad is entirely generated by Qi and Blood. Therefore, a nursing mother should possess a peaceful and kind disposition, and her physical appearance should not be ugly or repulsive.
When breastfeeding an infant, one should not overfeed; overfeeding leads to vomiting. If the infant has been overfed, allowing the infant to suckle on an empty nipple can aid digestion. In summer, if hot milk is not allowed to cool before feeding, it causes infantile vomiting and regurgitation; in winter, if cold milk is not warmed, it similarly causes vomiting. It is advisable to frequently feed the infant with pig's milk.
For newborn infants, after three days, the gastrointestinal tract should be opened to assist the "Grain Spirit" (Spleen and Stomach digestive function). Rice can be ground into a porridge drink with a consistency similar to yogurt. Feed the infant small amounts, roughly the size of soybeans, at frequent intervals.
Wet nurses must observe certain regulations and taboos. Failure to observe these restrictions will lead to the onset of various diseases in the child. Conversely, self-awareness and proper regulation of diet and lifestyle can ensure the child remains disease-free and lives a long life.
Decoction for Bathing Newborns:
Suine Vesica Bileis Folliculus (Pig Gallbladder) (one piece)
Boil the ingredients to make a decoction in a basin. Add the bile to the water. Adjust the temperature to suit the infant for bathing. This practice prevents skin sores throughout life. Strictly avoid adding raw tap water to the bathwater.
Mangcao Tang Decoction for Bathing (for treating sudden cold-heat syndrome in newborns who cannot take oral medication):
Radix Dichroiae (Mangcao) (one liang) Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae (Danshen) (one liang) Fructus Cnidii (Shechuangzi) (one liang) Cortex Cinnamomi (Guixin) (one liang) Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii (Changpu) (one liang)
Crush the above herbs. Boil in five sheng of water for twenty minutes. Strain the dregs. Adjust the temperature for bathing. Avoid wind exposure. For the first bath, select auspicious days: Yin, Mao, and You hours are highly auspicious; Ren-Wu, Ding-Si, and Gui-Ji days are highly inauspicious.
It is recommended to use Tiger Head Bone Decoction for bathing to prevent fright and dispel evil qi.
San Gen Tang Decoction for Bathing (suitable for newborns):
Radix Pruni Persicae (Yangtao Gen), Radix Pruni Simonii (Li Gen), Radix Pruni Mumei (Mei Gen) (each three liang)
