The nature of metallic and mineral substances is hard, rigid, rapid, and intense. Furthermore, their character is pure and clear, and they abhor impurities. After taking rushi (milk stone), one must carefully regulate the body by referring to and following ancient methods.
Why is this so? In youth, when sinews and bones are full and vigorous, and diet is abundant and satisfying, the body becomes more alert and robust, with no likelihood of disease manifesting. However, in old age, when vitality declines and climate (referring to physiological energy) wanes, if diet is improper, the qi of the stone will overpower the person's healthy qi, leading inevitably to the onset of disease. Observing both gains and losses, nothing is more evident than this. When young, even without consuming meat, blood and qi remain naturally strong; when old and weak, even with a fine diet including meat, health cannot be maintained. Thus, it is clear that ancient methods had omissions.
Generally, the blood vessels and meridians of the human body should flow continuously. If there is slight stagnation in the blood vessels, sores or fever may arise at the site of stagnation, accompanied by mental confusion and oppression. To prevent this, one should take one or two cups of warm clear wine every morning and evening to promote circulation. Therefore, regulation is not necessary only when deviating from the proper season. It is now observed that those who regulate themselves properly do not suffer from disease onset. Furthermore, renowned physicians advise that those taking stones should often use cooling methods for regulation. If symptoms arise, adjustment becomes easier. If the stone qi activates, temporary venting is required; taking a small amount of cold-natured medicine facilitates excretion. Once unobstructed, the heat is eliminated. However, if one constantly uses cold methods for regulation, when the stone qi activates, cold medicines cannot effectively induce excretion. The principles mentioned here are preserved to broaden understanding and demonstrate how to regulate the body. One must always assess one's own constitution, using cold and heat as indicators, striving for stability. One should not rigidly adhere to theories about stones while ignoring one's own condition and following others blindly. It is hoped that wise gentlemen will pay attention to this.
