The term "Jiu Gan" (Chronic Parasitic Disease) refers to various parasitic conditions that persist for a long time and do not heal. Some may temporarily heal but then relapse; others may shift between two or three locations, responding to each other. Hence, it is called "Jiu Gan" (Chronic Parasitic Disease).
Formula of Banmao Wan (Cantharides Pill) for treating chronic Gan sores:
Banmao (Cantharis, one tael, stir-fried with glutinous rice until the rice turns yellow, remove head, wings, and feet), Fuyi Fen (Bat guano, four taels, slightly stir-fried), Zaojia Hua (Gleditsia sinensis flower, one tael, slightly stir-fried).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. First, prepare a decoction by taking half a qian of Gleditsia sinensis pod coated in lard and roasted until slightly yellow, ground into powder, and boiled in water. Take one pill on an empty stomach daily; those with strong constitutions may take two to three pills. The root of the disease will be expelled through urine.
Formula for treating chronic Gan where lesions shift among several locations and all develop sores:
Bianfu Fen (Bat guano, one and a half taels), Bai Jiangcan (White silkworm, half a tael), Xiong Can'e (Male silkworm moth, half a tael), Ruto Xiang (Nipple incense, half a tael), Shu Cha Mo (Shu tea powder, half a tael).
Grind the above ingredients finely and sieve them into a powder. Apply to the sores until healed.
Another formula:
Wushe (Deinagkistrodon acutus, one and a half taels, soaked in wine, skin and bones removed, roasted until slightly yellow), Jili Zi (Tribulus terrestris seed, three fen), Qutou Ji Zhen (Curved thorn needle, half a tael), Machixian (Portulaca oleracea, three fen, preferably from walls), Toufa (Human hair, half a tael, burned to ash), Xionghuang (Realgar, one fen, finely ground), Feibo (Red silk fabric, half a tael, burned to ash).
Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Mix with wine and apply into the sore. Reapply as needed when dry until healed.
Formula of Wufen Bo Gao (Five-Part Silk Ointment) for treating chronic Gan sores over many years and for emergency treatment of all kinds of malignant sores:
Wufen Bo (Five-part silk, one cun each), Luafa (Tangled hair, two fen, washed clean), Huangqin (Scutellaria baicalensis root, one tael), Ziwan (Aster tataricus root, one tael, washed to remove roots and soil), Langdangzi (Datura metel seed, one tael), Daogou Ji Ci (Inverted hook thorns, one tael), Ruxiang (Frankincense, two taels), Shiyan (Rock salt, one tael), Huangla (Yellow beeswax, two taels), Moxiang (Musk, one tael, finely ground), Huangdan (Lead monoxide, seven taels), Hufen (Cerussa/Basic lead carbonate, one tael, mixed with a little water and ground until smooth).
Process each ingredient separately by grinding. First, put wine into a pan and heat until slight smoke appears. Add the five-part silk and tangled hair, and boil over high heat until completely dissolved. Then add... For the above, take mud-seal grease ash from old broken boats in the Jianghuai region, in any quantity. Grind into fine powder. Mix with egg white to form dough balls. Burn over charcoal until red-hot. Let cool, then burn again in the same manner. Repeat this process three times. Finally, grind finely and sieve into powder. Add a small amount of Musk. Mix with raw oil and apply topically until healed.
Formula for treating chronic Gan with nine holes:
Lufengfang (Honeycomb, roasted yellow and ground into powder).
Mix the above with pig fat from the twelfth lunar month and apply to the sores. This is highly effective.
Another formula:
Burn Gardenia jasminoides fruit to ash, grind finely, and mix with sheep marrow for topical application.
