Individuals who consume mineral drugs (Ru Shi, a group of heating minerals) may develop sores if their lifestyle management is improper. External wind-pathogens and internal accumulated heat may invade the blood and qi, causing stagnation and obstruction, thereby leading to the formation of sores.
For conditions triggered by mineral drugs, characterized by intense heat-toxins, redness and swelling of the head and face, body sores, and mental restlessness, the Shengma San (Cimicifugae Rhizoma Powder) is indicated.
Chuan Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Wei Rui (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma, 2 liang), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 liang), Zi Xue (Purple Snow, 2 liang), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, half liang, raw, cut into pieces), Xi Jiao Xie (Rhinocerotis Cornu Cuticle).
The above ingredients are coarsely ground and sifted into a powder. Each dose consists of 4 qian, decocted with one zhong zhan (approx. 200-300ml) of water and 37 slices of Zhu Ye (Bambusae Folium) until reduced to five parts. Strain the dregs, add Ban Mi (Honey, half he), mix well, and take warm.
