Deficient panting after childbirth is caused by insufficiency of the Zang-Fu organs, deficiency and injury of Qi and Blood, where failed blood rushes to the Heart and strikes upward against the Lung. The Lung governs Qi; when blood rushes and interferes with Qi, there is a disharmony between Qi and Blood.
For treating deficient panting after childbirth, characterized by shortness of breath, emaciation and fatigue in the four limbs, and loss of appetite, use Wuweizi San (Schisandra Powder).
Ingredients: Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis), Renshen (Radix Ginseng) [removed rhizome], Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) [chopped and slightly stir-fried], Huangqi (Radix Astragali Membranacei) [chopped], Xiongqiong (Radix Chuanxiong), Baifuling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos) [each 1 liang].
Preparation and Administration: Crush the above ingredients into a coarse powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water and 0.5 fen of fresh ginger. Decoct until 6 fen remains, strain, and take warm at any time.
For treating postpartum physical weakness, slight panting with sweating, fatigue, and abdominal pain, use Shugan Dihuang San (Prepared Rehmannia Powder).
Ingredients: Shugan Dihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata) [1 liang], Muli Fen (Concha Ostreae Pulverized) [1 liang], Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) [2 fen], Huangqi (Radix Astragali Membranacei) [3 fen, chopped], Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) [chopped and slightly stir-fried], Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis) [roasted until slightly yellow, chopped].
Preparation and Administration: Crush the above ingredients into a coarse powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water and 0.5 fen of fresh ginger. Decoct until 6 fen remains, strain, and take warm at any time.
For treating postpartum deficiency damage, rapid panting, lack of strength, and inability to eat or drink, use Huangqi San (Astragalus Powder).
Ingredients: Huangqi (Radix Astragali Membranacei) [1 liang, chopped], Renshen (Radix Ginseng) [3 fen, removed rhizome], Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis) [roasted until slightly red, chopped], Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi), Baifuling (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos), Shugan Dihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) [chopped].
Preparation and Administration: Crush the above ingredients into a coarse powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water, 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, and 3 dates. Decoct until 6 fen remains, strain, and take warm at any time.
For treating postpartum condition where Blood and Qi attack the Lung causing deficient panting, use Guixin San (Cinnamon Heart Powder).
Ingredients: Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi), Chenjupi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) [soaked in hot water, white pith removed, dried], Renshen (Radix Ginseng) [removed rhizome], Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) [chopped and slightly stir-fried, each 1 liang], Zisuzi (Semen Perillae Fructus) [0.5 liang, slightly stir-fried].
Preparation and Administration: Crush the above ingredients into a fine powder. At any time, mix 1 qian with congee broth and swallow.
For treating postpartum condition where Qi deficiency in the Blood Sea causes Qi to attack the Lung, resulting in occasional rapid panting, loss of appetite, and limb fatigue, use Wuweizi San (Schisandra Powder).
Ingredients: Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis) [3 fen], Helile Pi (Pericarpium Terminaliae Chebulae) [1 liang], Renshen (Radix Ginseng) [1 liang, removed rhizome], Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi) [0.5 liang], Shugan Dihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata) [1 liang], Changpu (Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii).
