The Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian is the meridian of the Stomach. Its branch circles around the lips and enters to connect with the Spleen. This is because the Stomach and Spleen are exterior-interiorly related. If Wind-Heat invades the Stomach and Spleen, pathogenic factors will take advantage of this deficiency.
To treat malignant nodules (Ehe He) swelling on the lips caused by the stagnation of Wind-Heat in the Stomach and Spleen, use Duhuo San (Dong Quill Powder).
Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix, 3 fen), Chuan Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 3 fen), Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, 3 fen), Sangjisheng (Taxilli Herba, 3 fen), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus, 3 fen), Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, 3 fen, sliced).
Crush and sieve the above herbs into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add one zhongzhan of water, decoct until reduced to six parts, remove the dregs, and take warm at any time.
To treat Wind-Heat in the Stomach and Spleen causing swollen nodules on the lips that cluster and do not dissipate, use Shengma San (Cimicifuga Powder).
Chuan Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Bailian (Polygonati Multiflori Rhizoma, 3 fen), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix, 3 fen), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, 3 fen, sliced), Lingyangjiao (Saigae Tataricae Cornu, 3 fen, sliced), Loulu (Cynanchi Atrati Radix, 3 fen), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Pericarpium, 3 fen, sliced).
Crush and sieve the above herbs into a powder. Take 5 qian per dose. Add one dazhan of water, decoct until reduced to six parts, remove the dregs, and take warm at any time.
For external application to treat nodules on the lips:
Songzhi (Pinus Resin, 0.5 liang), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 1 fen), Bailian (Polygonati Multiflori Rhizoma, 1 fen), Chixiaodou (Phaseoli Semen Rubrum, 1 fen), Hufen (Lead Carbonate, 1 fen).
Grind the above herbs finely and sieve them into a powder. Mix with egg white and apply externally to the affected area.
To treat tubercles with swelling and pain on the lips due to Heat-Toxin in the Stomach and Spleen, use Songzhi Gao (Pinus Resin Ointment).
Songzhi (Pinus Resin, 1 liang), Baijiaoxiang (Olibanum, 1 liang), Xunluxiang (Myrrha, 1 liang), La (Beeswax, 1 liang), Danggui Mo (Angelicae Sinensis Radix Powder, 1 liang), Gancao Mo (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Powder, 1 liang).
First, boil the resin slowly over low heat until bubbling. Then add the Pinus Resin, Olibanum, Myrrha, and Beeswax. Wait for them to melt, filter out the dregs, add Dihuang Zhi (Rehmanniae Juice) and decoct further.
Another method:
Incise the nodule with a blade to drain the foul blood; the condition will heal.
Regarding roughness and cracking of the lips, mouth, and face: This occurs when exposed to cold Wind-Cold during winter. The cold damages the Couli (pores/skin texture) and injures the skin, leading to cracking. The face is the convergence point of all Yang meridians, making it susceptible to Wind pathogens. Thus, exposure to Wind-Cold causes cracking. In winter, washing the face with warm water or warming oneself near a fire causes Qi to move within the Couli; if this coincides with exposure to Wind-Cold, cracking ensues.
To treat dry, cracked, and unmoistened lips due to Heat in the Spleen, consume Shengdihuang Jian (Raw Rehmannia Decoction).
Shengdihuang Zhi (Rehmanniae Radix Juice, 0.5 sheng), Sheng Tianmendong Zhi (Asparagi Radix Juice, 0.5 sheng), Weirui (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma, 2 liang), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, freshly sliced), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma).
Finely slice the herbs, wrap in silk, and soak in wine overnight. Add 2 jin of Pig Fat (Zhuzhi) and decoct until the herbal color turns scorched yellow. Filter through silk to remove dregs, place in a pot, and subsequently add [Rehmannia juice implied by context].
To treat cracking of the lips and face, use this formula:
La (Beeswax, 0.5 liang), Yangzhi (Sheep Fat, 0.5 liang), Jiajian (Turtle Shell Preparation, 1 he), Zicao (Arnebiae Radix seu Lithospermi Radix, 0.5 fen, sliced), Zhusha (Cinnabar, 0.5 liang, finely ground).
Melt the Beeswax slightly over low heat in a copper pot. Add Sheep Fat and bring to a boil once. Then add the Turtle Shell Preparation, Arnebia/Lithospermum Root, and Cinnabar. Decoct for three [boils/durations].
To treat cracking of the lips, mouth, and face after long travel:
Use the aforementioned Pig Fat (Zhuzhi) after thorough cooking. Store in a container. Apply frequently to the lips and face at night. If sleeping outdoors, this prevents cracking.
To treat dry, cracked, and bleeding lips in winter:
Thoroughly pound Tao Ren (Pruni Semen) and mix with Pig Fat (Zhuzhi) to apply to the lips. Effective.
