For conditions where the Great Wind disease (Leprosy/Severe Dermatoses) causes the loss of eyebrows and sideburns, it is all due to contracting wind-damp-cold pathogens. Some contract it after sweating and entering water; some due to cold water invading the body tissues; some due to lying in the wind after drinking alcohol. The winds from eight directions can all cause harm. They lodge in the meridians and collaterals, lingering for a long time without departing, interfering with Blood and Qi, thereby obstructing the smooth flow of Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi, causing pathogenic factors to scatter and逸 (escape). Thus, lesions appear on the face.
Lei Wan San (Thunder Pill Powder): A formula treating Great Wind disease with miraculous efficacy. This wind pathogen has five types, corresponding to the Five Elements: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth. Diseases caused by black worms are karmic retribution illnesses and are incurable. These pathogens move freely within the human body. If they erode the Liver, eyebrows and sideburns fall out first; if they erode the Lungs, the nasal bridge collapses and breaks, resulting in loss of smell; if they erode the Spleen, limbs and joints degenerate; if they affect other organs, sores and tinea often arise, resembling fish scales. This condition is named "Ni" (Reversal/Adverse). The origin of wind qi lies in coldness, which generates worms. Additionally, excessive physical exertion, improper diet, sexual activity after drinking, and sweat penetrating into the bone marrow can also lead to this disease. If treated by first taking this powder, the expulsion of worms serves as verification; seeing green, yellow, red, white, or black worms indicates the disease is treatable. For general worm infestations causing muscle necrosis and hair loss, Lei Wan San can be taken.
