Wind-pathogens invade the skin of infants, while phlegm-fluids infiltrate the zang-fu organs. This disrupts the harmony of Qi and Blood and causes a struggle between Yin and Yang, resulting in alternating chills and fever. This condition is attributed to Stomach Qi accompanied by heat.
For treating infants with alternating chills and fever, anorexia, emaciation, and abdominal distension: Wuweizi San (Schisandra Powder).
Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis) (1 fen), Gancao (Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae Preparata) (0.5 fen, honey-fried until slightly red and crushed), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) (1 fen, crushed and lightly stir-fried), Renshen (Radix Ginseng) (1 fen, radix removed), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) (1 fen), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae) (1 fen).
The above herbs are coarsely ground into a powder. Take 1 qian per dose, decoct with one small cup of water until reduced to 0.5 cup, strain, and take warm. Administer three to four times daily, adjusting the dosage according to the infant's age and condition.
For treating infants with alternating chills and fever, poor appetite, and emaciation: Renshen San (Ginseng Powder).
Renshen (Radix Ginseng) (0.5 liang, radix removed), Helilepi (Pericarpium Corni Fructus / Note: Text says Helilepi, usually Pericarpium Arecae Catechu or similar, here likely Pericarpium Arecae Catechu 'Helile') (3 fen), Huangqi (Radix Astragali Membranacei) (0.5 liang, crushed), Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri) (0.5 liang, radix removed), Fuling (Sclerotium Poria cocos) (0.5 liang), Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba) (0.5 liang, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow).
The above herbs are finely ground and sifted into a powder. Take 0.5 qian mixed with rice broth at any time, adjusting the dosage based on the infant's age.
For treating infants with qi accumulation under the hypochondrium, abdominal pain, asthma with difficult breathing, alternating chills and fever, and emaciation with anorexia: Matong Su Wan (Horse Dung and Millet Pill).
Matong Nei Su (Note: Likely refers to a specific preparation involving horse dung and millet, literal translation "Ma Tong Nei Su") (3 fen), Xixin (Herba Asari) (3 fen), Ziwan (Radix Asteris Tatarici) (3 fen, washed to remove radix and soil), Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis) (1 fen), Xingren (Semen Pruni Armeniacae) (3 fen, soaked in hot water, skin and tip removed), Taoren (Semen Persicae) (3 fen, soaked in hot water ten times, skin and tip removed, oil eliminated).
The above herbs are ground into powder, mixed with refined honey, and formed into pills the size of hemp seeds. Take five pills per dose with rice broth, three times daily, adjusting according to the infant's age.
For treating infants with alternating chills and fever, excessive sweating, irritability, dark yellow urine, anorexia, and emaciated limbs: Huangqi Wan (Astragalus Pill).
Huangqi (Radix Astragali Membranacei) (1 fen, crushed), Maimendong (Tuber Ophiopogonis Japonici) (1 fen, core removed and baked), Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri) (0.5 liang, radix removed), Chifuling (Sclerotium Poria cocos rubrum) (1 fen), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) (1 fen), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae) (1 fen).
The above herbs are ground into powder, mixed with refined honey, and formed into pills the size of mung beans. Take five pills per dose with rice broth, three to four times daily, adjusting the dosage based on the infant's age.
For treating infants whose irregular diet has damaged the Spleen and Stomach, causing alternating chills and fever, frequent vomiting, anorexia, and progressive emaciation: Binglang Wan (Betel Nut Pill).
Binglang (Semen Arecae) (1 fen), Dingxiang (Flos Caryophylli) (1 fen), Chuan Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei Palmati) (0.5 liang, crushed and lightly stir-fried), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi) (1 fen), Chenjupi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) (0.5 liang, soaked in hot water, white pith removed).
The above herbs are ground into powder, mixed with refined honey, and formed into pills the size of mung beans. Take five pills dissolved in thin ginger decoction at any time, adjusting the dosage according to the infant's age.
