Malignant nodules in children refer to a condition where wind-toxic qi battles with blood and qi, forming nodular masses on the sides of the neck. If further constrained by wind-cold, these nodules fail to dissipate or suppurate, hence the name "malignant nodule."
For treating malignant nodules arising on the side of the neck in children due to wind-heat, accompanied by alternating chills and fever, swelling, and pain, use the Wuxiang San (Five-Aromatic Powder) formula.
Mu Xiang (Radix Aucklandiae), 1 fen; She Xiang (Moschus), 1 fen, finely ground; Xunlu Xiang (Olibanum/Frankincense), 1 fen; Chen Xiang (Aquilaria Lignum Resinatum), half liang; Ji She Xiang (Lignum Spicatum/Clove Wood), 1 fen; Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae), half liang; Ma Huang (Herba Ephedrae), half liang; Zhi Shi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus), half liang.
The above herbs are coarsely pounded and sieved into a powder. Each dose is one qian, decocted in one small cup of water until reduced to five-fen volume. Strain the dregs, add Ban Zhu Li (Nodus Bambusae in Taedia), half he, and boil for one or two more boils.
For treating non-dissipating malignant nodules in the neck and axilla in children due to wind-heat, accompanied by frequent constipation and mental restlessness with heat, use the Danshen San (Salvia Miltiorrhiza Powder) formula.
Dan Shen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae), half liang; Lu Feng Fang (Nidus Vespae), 1 fen, slightly roasted; Chuan Sheng Ma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), half liang; Fang Feng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), half liang, remove rhizome head; Lian Qiao (Fructus Forsythiae), half liang; Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae), half liang; Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei), half liang; Zhi Ke (Exocarpium Citri Grandis cum Mesocarpo), 3 fen, bran-fried.
The above herbs are coarsely pounded and sieved into a powder. Each dose is one qian, decocted in one small cup of water until reduced to five-fen volume. Strain the dregs, let cool to warm temperature, and administer in divided doses according to the child's age and size.
For treating malignant nodules in the neck in children with persistent high fever, use the Shengma San (Cimicifuga Powder) formula.
Chuan Sheng Ma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), half liang; She Gan (Rhizoma Belamcandae), half liang; Lian Qiao (Fructus Forsythiae), half liang; Xi Jiao (Cornu Rhinocerotis), half liang, sliced; Chuan Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei), half liang, cut into pieces and slightly roasted; Chuan Po Xiao (Natrii Sulfas), half liang.
The above herbs are coarsely pounded and sieved into a powder. Each dose is one qian, decocted in one small cup of water until reduced to five-fen volume. Strain the dregs, let cool to warm temperature, and administer in divided doses according to the child's age and size.
For treating sudden onset of chills and fever, malignant nodules in the neck, and stiffness/tension in the shoulders and back in children, use the Lianqiao Wan (Forsythia Pill) formula.
Lian Qiao (Fructus Forsythiae), 3 fen; Hai Zao (Thallus Sargassii), half liang, washed to remove saltiness; Yu Bai Pi (Cortex Ulmi), half liang, cut; Mu Dan Pi (Cortex Moutan), half liang; Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus Cortex), half liang; Bai Tou Weng (Radix Pulsatillae), half liang; Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), half liang, remove sprouts.
The above herbs are pounded and sieved into fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of hemp seeds. Each dose consists of five pills taken with warm water, three times daily. Adjust dosage according to the child's age and size as appropriate.
For treating accumulation of heat-toxin in the chest in children, where wind-qi does not disperse, spreading to the neck to form malignant nodules, accompanied by persistent irritability and heat, use the Xuanshen Wan (Scrophularia Pill) formula.
Xuan Shen (Radix Scrophulariae), half liang; Han Fang Ji (Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae), half liang; Qiang Huo (Rhizoma Notopterygii), half liang; Chuan Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei), one liang, cut into pieces and slightly roasted; Mu Xiang (Radix Aucklandiae), half liang; Zhi Zi Ren (Semen Gardenoliae), half liang.
The above herbs are pounded and sieved into fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of mung beans. Each dose consists of five pills taken with rice broth, three times daily. Adjust dosage according to the child's age and size as appropriate.
For treating heat-toxin wind-swelling and malignant nodules in children, promoting internal dissipation, use the Chi Xiao Dou San (Red Bean Powder) formula.
Chi Xiao Dou (Semen Phaseoli Angularis), half liang; Zhu Ya Zao Jiao (Fructus Gleditsiae Sinensis), half liang; Xiao Shi (Natrii Nitras), half liang; Huang Bo (Cortex Phellodendri), half liang; Chuan Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei), one liang, cut into pieces and slightly roasted; Mu Die Zi (Semen Momordicae), half liang.
The above herbs are finely pounded and sieved into powder. Mix with egg white for topical application, used three to four times daily.
