The manifestations of pediatric epilepsy seizures include, in some cases, traction of the mouth and eyes with upward rolling of the eyeballs; in others, spasms of the hands and feet; stiffness of the waist and spine; retrocollis (head and neck bent backward); or flexion of the fingers, weak breath, and flaccidity of the hands.
To treat recurrent epilepsy of various types in children, regardless of whether it is caused by Wind or Heat, and regardless of the frequency or complexity of symptoms, the Zijin San (Purple Gold Powder) formula is suitable for use.
Zijin Fen (Purple Gold Powder) [1 liang 5 fen, also known as Chi Wu Jiao], Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) [3 fen, root and joints removed], Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) [1 liang, finely ground and washed with water], Hanshuishi (Halysitum) [1 liang], Di [text missing], [text missing] roasted until yellow, Hu [text missing], Gegen (Puerariae Radix) [half [liang]], Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) [3 [fen]].
The above herbs are crushed, sieved into a powder, mixed thoroughly, and ground evenly. Each dose is taken by mixing half qian with decoction of Zhu Ye (Bambusae Folium) and administering it orally. The dosage should be adjusted according to the child's age and size.
To treat recurrent convulsive epilepsy in children, characterized by dizziness, fainting, sudden collapse, indifference to hot water or fire, and to eliminate various diseases, the Qiandan Wan (Lead Tetroxide Pill) formula is used.
Qiandan (Lithargyri Pulvis) [ban liang], Zhusha (Cinnabaris) [ban liang, finely ground and washed with water], Tiefen (Plumbum Carbonicum) [ban liang], Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) [1 fen], Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) [1 fen], Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis) [1 fen, text missing, remove rhizome base], Han Fangji [text missing] [head?] [one piece, text missing, remove].
The above herbs are crushed, sieved into powder, mixed with refined honey, and pounded three to two hundred times. Form into pills the size of mung beans. Each dose consists of five pills, administered with millet drink. Adjust the dosage according to the child's age and size.
To treat recurrent epilepsy in children, aiming to eradicate the root cause, the Tianjiangzi Wan (Tianjiangzi Pill) formula is used.
Tianjiangzi (Dryopteridis Rhizoma) [14 pieces, shell removed, separately pounded], Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) [ban liang], Zha Chan (Cicadae Periostracum) [ban liang, wings and legs removed, slightly roasted], Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) [1 liang 5 fen, cut into small pieces, slightly roasted], Sheng Gan Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata) [text missing].
The above herbs are crushed, sieved into powder, mixed with refined honey, and pounded three to two hundred times. Form into pills the size of mung beans. Each dose consists of three pills, administered with millet drink, three times daily. Adjust according to the condition.
To treat pediatric wind-epilepsy that persists into adulthood, triggered by cloudy weather, accompanied by rigid eating habits, contraction of all meridians, unsteady gait, and speech difficulties, the following formula is used:
Yinyu Ye (Foliium Illicii Cornutae), Huangdan (Lithargyri Pulvis) [ban liang], Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix) [ban liang, radix removed], Gouteng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis) [ban liang], Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) [ban liang, finely ground and washed with water], [text missing], Qianglang (Staphylini Faex) [5 pieces, text missing].
The above herbs are crushed, sieved into powder, mixed with refined honey, and pounded three to two hundred times. Form into pills the size of millet seeds. Each dose consists of five pills, administered with millet drink. Adjust the dosage up or down according to the child's age and size.
To treat pediatric convulsive epilepsy that has persisted for years without eradication of the root cause, the Chitou Wan (Owl Head Pill) formula is used.
Chitou (Caput Strigidae) [one piece, smelly ones roasted until yellow], Qianglang (Staphylini Faex) [7 pieces, wings and legs removed, slightly roasted], Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Fushen (Poria Cum Radix) [ban liang], Chishao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) [text missing, ban liang, roasted until slightly red, cut], Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [ban liang, cut, slightly roasted], Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) [ban liang], Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [ban liang], Shexiang (Moschus) [1 fen, finely ground], Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis) [ban liang, finely ground], Langdang Zi (Semen Hyoscyami) [ban liang, roasted until black].
The above herbs are crushed, sieved into powder, mixed with refined honey, and pounded three to two hundred times. Form into pills the size of mung beans. Each dose consists of five pills, administered with warm water. Adjust the dosage according to the child's age and size.
