Infant oral contracture (Zhuokou) arises from the fetus being affected by wind-heat pathogens while in the maternal womb. After birth, when the infant's qi and blood are not yet harmonized, or if exposed to wind during bathing, or if swaddling care is improper, this condition occurs. It is one of the most difficult conditions to treat in newborns.
For treating neonatal jaw lock (Fajin) and oral contracture, Gouteng San (Uncaria Powder) is suitable.
Gouteng (Half tael), Chuan Shengma (Half tael), Danglang (Two pieces, wings and feet removed, lightly stir-fried), Huangqin (Half tael).
The above ingredients are crushed, passed through a fine sieve, and made into a powder. Each dose is one qian, decocted with one small cup of water and one fen of Lugen (Reed Rhizome), until four parts remain. Strain the dregs and administer slowly in a warm state.
A miraculous formula for preventing and treating infant oral contracture due to wind-heat:
White rice (50 grains), Puxiao (Half qian), Chi (30 grains), Sheng Gancao (One cun, cut), Congbai (One cun).
Decoct the above ingredients in one small cup of urine from an uncircumcised boy until three he of liquid remains. Before the newborn takes milk, immediately moisten cotton with the medicine and apply twenty-one drops into the infant's mouth. Soon after, the infant's abdomen will... [text missing].
To treat oral contracture, measure the midpoint below the line connecting the two nipples using a thread, moxa for three zhuang, which can revive the dying. Also use the following prescription.
Wu Lv Ru (Donkey's milk, one tael, mixed), Dongyin Huaizhi (Locust branch growing eastward, ten pieces, each three cun long).
Roast the locust branches over charcoal fire until half burnt; when fluid exudes from the unburnt part, remove it, wipe off the ash, and soak it in donkey's milk. After a moment, dip the branch in the liquid and apply.
Formula for treating infant fetal heat-induced oral contracture:
Niuhuang (One qian, finely ground), Zhuli (Bamboo sap, one he).
Mix the above ingredients evenly and administer small amounts frequently.
Another prescription:
Wo Niuzi (Snail shells, ten pieces, shell removed, finely ground into paste), Shiluo Mo (Dill powder, half fen).
Grind the above ingredients together until uniform. Mix with milk juice and apply around the lips; recovery is immediate.
Another prescription:
Shexiang (Musk, one fen), Zhusha (Cinnabar, one fen), Shetui Pi (Snake skin, one chi, finely cut, lightly stir-fried).
Finely grind all ingredients into powder. Use half zi per application, adhering it to the infant's lips with saliva. Apply five to seven times daily.
Treating infant oral contracture and jaw lock:
Use Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Root), one fen, finely chopped. Decoct in one small cup of water until six parts remain. Strain and give to the infant while slightly warm. Allow the infant to expectorate phlegm and saliva, then... [text missing].

Another prescription:
Take fresh bean sprouts from birth, mash thoroughly, mix with milk juice, and feed to the infant. Alternatively, crush raw and wring out juice, giving a small amount orally is also effective.
Another prescription:
Take three Wan Can'e (Late silkworm moths), roast until yellow, grind into powder. Apply with honey to the mouth for effect.
Another prescription:
Wo Niuzi (Snail shells, five pieces, shell removed).
Extract juice and apply to the mouth; stop when cured.
