Fissure (skin cracking) arises from deficiency of the muscle tissue. In winter, exposure to cold pathogens causes wind-cold to impair the body, leading to rupture of the skin on the hands and feet; hence it is termed fissure.
Prescription for treating hand and foot fissures with bleeding and pain:
Wash the affected area with wine and suet (pig fat). Pain will cease immediately.
Prescription for "Corpse Foot" (persistent year-round fissuring of the feet):
Take one sheng of chicken manure, add five sheng of water, and boil until reduced to three sheng. Allow to cool to a warm temperature and soak the feet. Recovery occurs within half a day.
Prescription for treating hand and foot fissures:
Take four he of Sichuan pepper (Chuanjiao), boil in water, remove dregs, and soak the affected areas. Remove after approximately the time it takes to eat one meal, allow to dry, then soak again. When dry, apply sheep or pig marrow/brain.
This method is particularly effective.
Prescription for treating hand and foot fissures with bleeding and pain, as well as discomfort from wading in water, frostbite on the face, and associated skin ulceration:
Take wheat leaves, boil them thickly to extract juice, and soak/wash the affected area while hot.
Prescription for treating hand and foot fissures that have become sores:
Render sheep marrow into oil, add a small amount of lead monoxide (Huandan), stir evenly until solidified, and apply thoroughly over the area. Apply three to five times for recovery.
Another prescription:
Apply fresh rabbit brain directly; this is beneficial.
Another prescription:
Suet (five he), dried ginger powder (two liang).
Mix the above ingredients, boil for three to five boils, wait until the temperature is moderate, and soak fingers in the mixture.
Another prescription:
Take one sheng of Polygonum seeds (Liaozi), add seven sheng of water, boil for five to seven boils, let cool to warm, and rinse several times until cured.
Prescription for healing fissured finger joints that are about to fall off:
Use bluestone (Qingshi) from Laizhou used for making vessels:
Scrape finely with a knife to obtain powder. Align the impending detached finger joint sections, match the grain patterns, cover thickly with the stone powder, and bind tightly with cloth. Pain stops immediately, and the finger recovers within ten days.
Prescription for treating fissures, rupture, and pain:
Moxibustion-warm pine needles and apply to the area; also wash with boiled pine needle decoction. Recovery occurs within two or three treatments.
Regarding burns and scalds: Initially, do not use cold objects, well mud, or honey to cover the wound. Heat encountering cold drives the pathogen deeper, causing bone rot and tendon damage. This is why hand contracture often follows burn/scald injuries.
Cooling Ointment (Zhi Liang Gao) for stopping pain, resolving fire toxicity, nourishing skin, and generating flesh after scalds/burns:
Gardenia seed (Zishiren, 1 fen), Coptis rhizome (Huanglian, 1 fen, remove stamens), Rehmannia root (Shengdihuang, 2 liang), Scallion white (Congbai, 10 pieces, broken), Angelica dahurica (Baizhi, 1 fen), Beeswax (Huangla, 0.5 liang), Sesame oil (Qingmayou, 4 liang).
Finely chop all herbs. Fry in sesame oil until Rehmannia turns black. Strain through silk cloth to clarify. Return oil to the pot, add beeswax, and simmer slowly until melted. Pour into a porcelain container. To use, dip a chicken feather in the ointment and rub onto the affected area until healed.
Divine Efficacy White Ointment (Shen Xiao Baigao) for severe pain from scalds/burns:
White beeswax (Baila, 1 liang), Sesame oil (Mayou, 4 liang), Angelica sinensis (Danggui, 1.5 liang, freshly cut).
First, fry Danggui in sesame oil until black, strain out dregs. Then add beeswax, wait for melting, and stir vigorously. Cool and store in a porcelain container. Apply using old cloth strips.
Prescription for scalds/burns before ulceration forms:
Take cold ash, mix with water to form a paste, and apply. Alternatively, wash with ash water.
Another prescription:
Take equal parts of millet starter qu (Shumiqu), roast until black, grind into powder. Mix with egg white and apply.
Another prescription:
Take Zizania latifolia root (Gujianggen), clean soil, burn to ash, grind finely. Mix with egg yolk and apply as a seal.
Another prescription:
Finely chop inner willow bark (Liubai pi), fry in lard, strain, and apply. Inner birch bark is also suitable.
Another prescription:
Soak and wash with urine.
Another prescription:
Mix realgar powder (Xionghuang) with vinegar and apply.
Prescription for open wounds from scalds:
Rhubarb root (Chuan Dahuang), inner birch bark (Baibai pi) in equal parts.
Grind into powder, mix with fresh Rehmannia juice, and apply.
Prescription for scald injuries:
Lead monoxide (Huandan, 1 fen), Coptis powder (Huanglian mo, 1 qian, lightly fried), Areca nut (Binglang, 1 piece, finely chopped, lightly fried, ground).
Mix evenly. First wash the wound with salt water, then apply the powder to the sore.
Pain-Relieving Ointment (Zhi Tong Gao) for day-and-night heat and pain from burns/scalds:
Sheep fat (Yangzhi, 3 fen), Pine resin (Songzhi, 3 fen), Pig fat (Zhuzhi, 3 fen), Beeswax (La, 0.5 liang).
Melt sheep and pig fats in a pot using fatty pine wood knots as fuel. Boil three to five times. Add pine resin and beeswax until melted. Stir and pour into a new ceramic vessel. Apply two to three times daily.
Prescription for acute burns/scalds with persistent pain and restlessness, preventing scar formation:
Drink rice gruel mixed with fresh well water.
Another prescription:
Boil hemp seeds (Damaizi) into a paste according to standard methods. Apply while moist; replace when dry.
Divine Efficacy Prescription for heat toxicity, pain, and restlessness from burns/scalds:
Grind Rhubarb (Dahuang) into fine powder, mix with honey to form a paste, and apply. Pain ceases immediately.
Prescription for pain from open sores caused by hot liquids:
Rinse with warm wine; pain stops immediately.
Another prescription:
Apply white honey to the sore, cover with bamboo membrane, and change frequently until pain stops.
Another prescription:
Break an egg, apply the egg white; this is very effective.
Another prescription:
Apply soy sauce brine.
Another prescription:
Burn willow bark to ash, mix with honey, and apply.
Another prescription:
For fresh burns/scalds,剪碎 dog hair, mix with animal glue (Yangjiao), apply evenly to the painful area, and seal. One application lasts until the scab falls off without recurrence or pain; this is highly effective.
