The so-called "pea pox" (Wandou Chuang) caused by seasonal pathogens arises when heat-toxic qi attacks the Zang-Fu organs, with residual pathogenic factors flowing into the muscles and eventually condensing within the skin pores to form these lesions.
The lesions emerge resembling pea-sized granules, hence the name. Administration of herbs that resolve heat and detoxify will halt the progression of the lesions. A surging and rapid pulse is the characteristic sign.
For treating pea pox induced by seasonal pathogens, presenting with pain after eruption and mental restlessness, the Xijiao San (Rhinoceros Horn Powder) prescription is indicated.
Xi Jiao Xie (Powdered Rhinoceros Horn, *Rhinocerotis Cornu*) (0.5 liang), Ding Xiang (Clove, *Caryophylli Flos*) (0.5 liang), Xun Lu Xiang (Frankincense, *Boswelliae Resina*) (0.5 liang), Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root, *Aucklandiae Radix*) (0.5 liang), Xuan Shen (Scrophularia Root, *Scrophulariae Radix*) (1 liang), Chuan Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, *Cimicifugae Rhizoma*) (1 liang).
She Xiang (Musk, *Moschi Fermentum*) (1 fen).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder using a fine sieve. Take 2 qian per dose. Decoct in one zhong of water until reduced to 0.5 zhong. Take warm, including the dregs, at any time.
Another prescription.
Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome, *Coptidis Rhizoma*) (2 liang, remove rootlets).
Coarsely grind and sieve the above ingredient into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Decoct in one zhong of water until reduced to 0.5 zhong. Strain and take warm at any time.
For treating pea pox induced by seasonal pathogens, where lesions are nail-sized and dark red or black, this prescription is suitable.
Yang Dan (Sheep Gallbladder Juice, *Ovis Aries Gallus*) (7 units, extract juice), Yang Zhi (Sheep Fat, *Ovis Aries Adeps*) (3 liang).
Mix the two ingredients and boil in a silver pot for five to seven boils. Cool, pound into a paste, and apply topically to the lesions. Use four to five times daily.
Another prescription.
Chuan Mang Xiao (Mirabilite, *Natrii Sulfas*) (2 liang, finely ground).
Mix the above with Pig Bile (*Suis Fel*) and apply topically to the lesions. Do not disturb them until the scabs fall off naturally.
Prescription for treating pea pox induced by seasonal pathogens.
Apply high-quality white honey (*Apis Mellifera Melle*) thoroughly over the body on the lesions. One may also consume honey frequently. If the lesions are ulcerated and painful, apply finely ground yellow earth (*Huang Tu*) topically.
Prescription for treating heat-toxic invasion causing pea pox.
Ku Shen (Sophora Root, *Sophorae Flavescentis Radix*) (2 liang).
Finely chop the above ingredient and decoct in two large zhong of water until reduced to one zhong. Strain and divide into two doses. Take three to four times daily.
For treating early-stage pea pox induced by seasonal pathogens, this prescription is suitable upon initial sensation.
Chuan Da Huang (Rhubarb Root, *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma*) (0.5 liang, chopped and lightly stir-fried).
Decoct in one large zhong of water until reduced to 0.7 zhong. Strain and divide into two doses. Take three to four times daily.
Another prescription.
Qing Dai (Indigo Naturalis, *Indigo Naturalis*) (0.5 liang, finely crushed).
Mix with fresh well-water and take orally. Take three to four times daily.
Another prescription.
Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root, *Aucklandiae Radix*) (1 liang).
Crush the above ingredient and decoct in one large zhong of water until reduced to 0.6 zhong. Strain and take warm at any time.

Wash the affected area with thickly boiled juice from millet chaff (*Setaria italica Gluma*). If other types of chaff juice are mistakenly used, the disease will not heal.
