Cough due to seasonal pathogens arises from heat pathogenic factors invading the Lung, resulting in heat in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner), manifesting as restlessness and irritability in the chest and heart, dryness of the throat, and headache. The patient will inevitably desire to drink water; if water stagnates below the Heart (in the epigastrium), it ascends to invade the Lung, thereby causing rebellious Qi and cough. A surging and rapid pulse is the characteristic sign of this pattern.
For cough due to seasonal pathogens accompanied by phlegm and vomiting in the chest and heart, deficiency-type restlessness, cough, and frequent shortness of breath, Mai Men Dong San (Ophiopogon Powder) is indicated.
Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 1 liang, remove the heart) Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix, 3 fen, remove the rhizome) Ge Gen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix, 1 fen, sliced) Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix, 3 fen, remove the rhizome) Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix, 3 fen, remove the rhizome) Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum, 3 fen, soaked in boiling water seven times to remove slipperiness) Bei Mu (Fritillariae Bulbus, 1 liang, roasted until slightly yellow) Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 3 fen, honey-fried until slightly red, sliced)
Crush and sieve the above ingredients to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, with one large cup of water, add half a piece of Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), decoct until only half the liquid remains, strain, and take warm at any time.
For cough due to seasonal pathogens characterized by difficulty in the throat, restlessness and oppression in the chest and heart, Mu Tong San (Akebia Powder) is indicated.
Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis, 1 liang, sliced) Sang Bai Pi (Mori Cortex, 1 liang, sliced) Ge Gen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix, 3 fen, sliced) She Ye (Belamcandae Rhizoma, 3 fen) Zi Wan (Asteris Radix, 3 fen, remove roots and soil) Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum, 1 liang, soaked in boiling water seven times to remove slipperiness) Ma Dou Ling (Aristolochiae Fructus, 0.5 liang)
Crush and sieve the above ingredients to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, with one large cup of water, add half a piece of Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), decoct until only half the liquid remains, strain, and take warm at any time.
For lung deficiency with heat obstruction, wheezing, and cough due to seasonal pathogens, Tian Men Dong San (Asparagi Powder) is indicated.
Tian Men Dong (Asparagi Radix, remove the heart) Zi Wan (Asteris Radix, remove roots and soil) Chi Fu Ling (Poria with Red Hosta Root, raw) Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried until slightly red, sliced) Chen Ju Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, soaked in water, remove white pith, dried) Sang Bai Pi (Mori Cortex, 1 liang, remove roots and joints)
