Heat disease. Toxic heat attacks the Heart and Lungs. Irritating heat stagnates in the chest and diaphragm, causing thirst and desire to drink. This inevitably leads to coarse and rapid breathing. After sweating or purging treatments, the Stomach Qi remains deficient.
If the heat toxin does not recede, and excessive water is consumed due to thirst, fluid retention occurs below the Heart (in the epigastrium). Thus, rapid breathing ensues.
For treating heat disease with panting and urgency, irritability and oppression in the heart and diaphragm, or phlegm obstruction preventing eating, the Qianhu San formula is suitable.
