The etiology of persistent hemorrhage from hemorrhoids (hemorrhoidal bleeding) lies in wind-cold affecting the Large Intestine and accumulated heat-toxin in the Lungs. The heat-toxin stagnates and invades the meridians and collaterals. Blood, by nature, flows and scatters when heated; compounded by deficiency-cold in the Large Intestine, the blood moves recklessly. Consequently, clear blood is discharged with stool, a condition also known as Blood Hemorrhoids (Xue Zhi).
For treating hemorrhoidal diseases characterized by lower abdominal pain due to wind-cold in the Large Intestine and persistent bleeding, it is advisable to take Chun Gen San (Chestnut Root Powder).

* *Sanguisorbae Radix* (Diyu, 1 liang, chopped)
* *Scutellariae Radix* (Huangqin, 1 liang, chopped)
* *Longgu Fossilia* (Fulonggan, 1 liang, finely ground and added)
* *Angelicae Sinensis Radix* (Danggui, 3 fen, chopped and lightly stir-fried)
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder through a sieve. Before meals, mix 2 qian with rice broth and take orally.
For treating hemorrhoidal diseases with excessive bleeding, intermittent attacks, or remissions, use Meishi Zi San (Gallnut Powder).

* *Bark of Ailanthus altissima* (Chugen Baipi, 3 liang, chopped and lightly stir-fried until yellow)
* *Leonuri Herba* (Yimucao, 3 fen)
* *Medicated Leaven* (Shenqu, 2 liang, lightly stir-fried)
* *Ramulus Cinnamomi* (Ba Ye, 1 liang)
* *Auricularia Judae* (Sang Er, 1 liang)
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder through a sieve. Before meals, mix 1 qian with warm rice broth and take orally.
For treating hemorrhoidal diseases where wind-toxin flows into the Large Intestine causing persistent bleeding, it is advisable to take Shexiang San (Musk Powder).

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder through a sieve. Before meals, mix 1 qian with warm wine and rice broth and take orally.
For treating hemorrhoidal diseases with irregular timing of bleeding, it is advisable to take Feitengzi San.

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder through a sieve. Before meals, mix 1 qian with warm rice broth and take orally.
For treating hemorrhoidal diseases with bleeding occurring day and night without regularity, persisting despite long-term treatment, it is advisable to take Zaojiazi San.

* *Nidus Vespae* (Lufengfang, 1 liang, lightly stir-fried)
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder through a sieve. Before meals, mix 2 qian with rice broth and take orally.

* *Coriandri Fructus* (Huisui Zi, 1 liang, lightly stir-fried)
* *Scutellariae Radix* (Huangqin, 2 liang, chopped)
* *Flos Sophorae* (Huaihua, 1 liang, lightly stir-fried)
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder through a sieve. Before meals, mix 2 qian with rice broth and take orally.

* *Cornu Bubali* (Niuhuangjiao, 4 liang)
* *Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis* (Biejia, 2 liang)
* *Squama Manis* (Chuanshanjia, 2 liang)
Soak the above ingredients in good vinegar, then roast over high fire until all smoke dissipates. After cooling, grind into a fine powder through a sieve. Before meals, mix 1 qian with rice broth and take orally.

* *Colla Corii Asini* (Ejiao, 1 liang, crushed and stir-fried until yellow and dry)
* *Bark* (Pi, 1 liang, roasted until slightly yellow)

Treating hemorrhoidal diseases with persistent bleeding, Shenxiao Sangji Wan (Miraculous Mulberry Chicken Pill):
* *Sangji* (1 liang, lightly stir-fried/roasted)
* *Huaiji* (1 liang, lightly stir-fried)
* *Bark* (1 liang, lightly stir-fried)
* *Ash of Tangled Hair* (Luankua Hui, 0.5 liang)
* *Scutellariae Radix* (Huangqin)
* *Ovis Cornu* (Niujiao)
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Boil Huai Jiao (Sophora gum) to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Before meals, decoct branches of Sophora tree and take 10 pills with the decoction.

* *Fructus Chebulae* (Helile, 3 fen, calcined to ash)
* *Os Draconis* (Bailonggu, 3 fen, calcined until red-hot)
* *Alumen Rubrum* (Baishizhi, 3 fen, calcined until red-hot)
* *Angelicae Sinensis Radix* (Danggui, 3 fen)
* *Fructus Aurantii* (Zhike, 3 fen, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow, pith removed)
* *Moschus* (Shexiang, 1 qian, finely ground)
* *Fructus Gleditsiae Sinensis* (Zaojia, 3 fen, non-bitten ones coated with butter/vinegar, roasted until slightly yellow, peel and seeds removed)
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Before meals, take 10 pills with rice broth.
Treating hemorrhoidal bleeding that persists day and night, Shenxiao Fang (Miraculous Formula):
* *Alumen* (Bai Fan, 5 liang)
* *Vitriolum Viride* (Lv Fan, 3 liang)
* *Longgu Fossilia* (Fulonggan, 2 liang)
* *Minium* (Huandan, 2 liang)
* *Bark* (Pi, 2 liang)
Crush the above ingredients and place them in a porcelain bottle. Roast over charcoal fire for five to seven cycles until the charcoal is exhausted. After cooling, remove and grind into powder. Mix with flour paste to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Before meals, take 10 pills with rice broth.
Another prescription:
* *Spina Gleditsiae Sinensis* (Zaojia Ci, 2 liang)
* *Bark of Ailanthus altissima* (Chugen Baipi, 1 liang, lightly roasted and chopped)
* *Fructus Schizonepetae* (Jingjiezi, 1 liang)
* *Radix Paeoniae Rubra* (Chishaoyao, 0.5 liang)
* *Huie* (Huai E, 0.5 liang)
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Take half and boil with one sheng of aged vinegar until it becomes a paste. Mix this paste with the remaining half of the powder to form pills the size of mung beans. Before meals, take 20 pills with rice broth.

* *Scutellariae Radix* (Huangqin, 1 liang, chopped)
* *Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata* (Fuzi, 1 liang, processed, peel and umbilicus removed)
* *Cortex Cinnamomi* (Guixin, 1 liang)
* *Fructus Aurantii* (Zhike, 1 liang, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow, pith removed)
* *Fructus Gleditsiae Sinensis* (Zaojia, 3 stalks, black skin removed, coated with butter, roasted until slightly yellow, seeds removed)
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Before meals, take 20 pills with decoction of Schizonepeta.
