Any case of Biao Ju (Biao abscess) involves sudden appearance of spots within the flesh, resembling bean grains. Small ones are like millet seeds; severe cases resemble plums or peaches. The color may be red, black, green, or white, without fixed pattern. One type has a specific shape; if unrecognized, it is called Dai Zhi (Dai finger). If not treated promptly, the pathogenic factor will enter the Zang organs via the meridians, leading to death. People in the Western regions who contract this disease typically amputate the affected fingers. When the Ju (abscess) first erupts, the fingertip initially presents with spots, followed by swelling, redness, and blackening, with pain penetrating to the heart. This is the manifestation of Biao Ju. Subsequently, foul flesh (necrotic tissue) appears. Suddenly, fleshy protuberances like bean grains emerge on the patient's body, growing larger, exuding fluid like cow or horse milk when pushed, with a top resembling a rooster's comb. Without treatment, it grows spontaneously but without pain or itching. This condition arises from enduring evil wind during spring and winter, which penetrates deep into the muscle and meridians over time, transforming into this disease. Treatment should involve taking Loulu Tang (Rhapontic Rhizome Decoction), external application of cauterization daily until charred, combined with topical ointment application. Recovery occurs after accumulation of days.
To treat Biao Ju, where spots suddenly appear in the skin and flesh like hemp seeds or beans, or large as peaches and plums, with unbearable swelling and pain, use Shegan San (Belamcanda Powder).
Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Chuan Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange, 1 liang, bran-fried until slightly yellow), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, cut into pieces and slightly fried), Shexiang (Moschus, 1 fen, finely ground), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix, 1.5 liang, radix removed), Xijiaoxie (Rhinocerotis Cornu, 3 qian), Lingyangjiaoxie (Saiga Tataricae Cornu, 3 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1.5 liang, cut into pieces).
The above herbs are coarsely pounded and sieved to make a powder. Add Shexiang and mix evenly. Take 4 qian per dose. Boil with one zhong of water until reduced to 0.6 parts. Strain and remove dregs. Take warm at any time.
To treat Biao Ju with pain penetrating to the heart and high fever in the four limbs, use Loulu San (Euphorbiae Humifusae Herba Powder).
Loulu (Euphorbiae Humifusae Herba, 1 liang), Bailian (Ampelopsis Radix, 1 liang), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 liang), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, 1 liang, roots and joints removed), Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange, 1 liang, bran-fried until slightly yellow), Chuan Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Chishao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra, 1 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, honey-fried until slightly red and cut into pieces), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 1.5 liang, cut into pieces and slightly fried).
The above herbs are coarsely pounded and sieved to make a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Boil with one zhong of water until reduced to 0.6 parts. Strain and remove dregs. Take warm at any time.
To treat Biao Ju where toxic qi does not dissipate, skin and flesh turn dark/black, with unbearable pain, use Zhishi San (Immature Bitter Orange Powder).
Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange, 1 liang, bran-fried until slightly yellow), Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Chuan Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Sheng Gan Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, 1 liang), Xijiaoxie (Rhinocerotis Cornu, 1 liang), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, cut into pieces and slightly fried), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix, 1.5 liang, radix removed), Shexiang (Moschus, 1 fen, finely ground).
The above herbs are coarsely pounded and sieved to make a powder. Add Shexiang and mix evenly. Take 3 qian per dose. Boil with one zhong of water until reduced to 0.6 parts. Strain and remove dregs. Take warm at any time.
To treat Biao Ju, dispel toxicity and relieve pain, use Dansha Gao (Cinnabar Ointment).
Dansha (Cinnabaris, 1 liang, finely ground), Xijiaoxie (Rhinocerotis Cornu, 2 liang), Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma, 3 liang), Sheng Gan Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, 10 liang), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang), [Xiong?], [Shexiang?] (half liang, finely ground).
The above herbs are finely cut. Mix with half sheng of vinegar until moist. Let stand for a short period (one contraction time). Then add two sheng of lard. Simmer over low heat until Chuan Dahuang turns reddish. Filter through silk cloth to remove dregs. Then add powdered Dansha and Shexiang. Stir well. Store in a porcelain box. At any time, take half a spoonful mixed with warm water.
To treat Biao Ju, disperse toxic qi, use Shexiang Mo Gao (Moschus Massage Ointment).
Shexiang (Moschus, half liang, finely ground), Mangcao (Adenophorae Radix? Note: Text says Mangcao, likely Aristolochiae Fructus or similar, here transliterated as Mangcao), Chuan Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 3 liang), Hanshuishi (Aragonitum, 2 liang), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 2 liang), Lingyangjiaoxie (Saiga Tataricae Cornu, 3 liang), Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma, 3 liang), [She Xiang?], Sheng Di Huang Zhi (Fresh Rehmanniae Juice, 2 sheng), Yang [Zhi].
The above herbs are finely cut. Add two jin of lard, Sheng Di Huang Zhi, Yang Zhi, and other herbs. Simmer until Huangqin turns black. Filter through silk cloth to remove dregs. Add powdered Shexiang and Dansha. Stir well. Store in a porcelain box. Frequently massage onto the sore.
To treat Chuang Ju (Wound Abscess) spreading widely, turning red-black and ulcerating, use Gancao Gao (Licorice Ointment).
Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang, raw), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang), Hufen (Cerussa, 1 liang, finely ground), Yang Sui (Ovis Medulla, 2 liang), Zhu Zhi (Suis Adeps, 2 he).
The above herbs are finely pounded and sieved. Put into a pan and fry together with fat and medulla for three to five boils. Once the ointment forms, add Hufen. Stir well. Store in a porcelain box. Apply to the sore each time.
To treat Biao Ju spreading, about to form but not yet formed, resembling peach pits or eggs, with red swelling and heat, use Tuo Gancao Tang (Compress Licorice Decoction).
Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 liang), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1 liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang), Chuan Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 2 liang).
