The Kidney stores essence internally. Essence is contained within the will (Zhi). The Kidney and Bladder are exterior-interiorly related, both governing water fluids. Its Qi penetrates the Small Intestine and connects to the Yin organs/genitals.
If a person experiences pain in the lower abdomen extending to the genitals, known as Changchang Qi (Intestinal Gas/Colic involving the groin), the Xiang San Powder should be used.
Xiangzi (Fagara Fructus, 1 liang) Keliuzi (Melia Seed, 1 liang, stir-fried until slightly yellow) Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 0.5 liang) Binglang (Arecae Semen, 1 liang) Qingju pi (Green Tangerine Peel, 0.5 liang, soaked in hot water, white pith removed, dried)
Crush the above herbs and sift through a fine sieve to make a powder. Take 2 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water and 0.5 fen of fresh ginger. Decoct until reduced to 0.5 zhong. Strain and remove dregs. Drink hot at any time.
For treating Changchang Qi pain, Chenxiang San Powder is suitable.

For treating Changchang Qi with unbearable lower abdominal pain, Bichengqie San Powder is suitable.
