The Zang-Fu organs all receive Qi from the Lung. The Lung governs Qi. Qi belongs to Yang. When Yang Qi is harmonious and peaceful, voice and speech are smooth and clear. If the body is exposed to cold or one consumes cold drinks and food, the two types of cold interact and damage the Lung. Wind-cold is a Yin pathogen; when it contends with Yang, Yin and Yang become disharmonious, and the Qi pathway becomes obstructed. This causes hoarseness or loss of voice.
For treating the Lung affected by external wind-cold, resulting in hoarseness, inability to speak, and stagnation of Qi in the chest and diaphragm, Banxia San (Pinellia Powder) is indicated.
