The Kidney is the root of Yuan Qi (Original Qi) and the residence of Shen (Spirit) and Jing (Essence). If Kidney Qi is deficient, Yin Qi will be in excess while Yang Qi will be insufficient. Consequently, this leads to a sensation of emptiness in the heart, shortness of breath, and other symptoms.
For treating Kidney Qi deficiency manifesting as shortness of breath in the chest, frequent blurriness of vision, distending pain in the lower abdomen, stiffness and pain in the waist and back, weakness of Yang Qi, empty ringing in both ears, and irritability:
Prescription: Cishi (Magnetitum, Magnetite), two liang, crushed and washed with water to remove red juice; Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus, Schisandra Berry), three fen; Lingyangjiaoxie (Saigae Tataricae Cornu, Saiga Horn shavings), three fen; Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, Prepared Rehmannia Root), one liang; Huangqi (Astragali Membranacei Radix, Astragalus Root), three liang (Note: Original text has missing characters "Huang (San", inferred as Huangqi based on context); Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex, Cinnamon Bark), three fen.
Crush the above ingredients into coarse powder. Take four qian per dose, add one zhong of water and half a fen of fresh ginger, decoct until six parts remain, strain, and take warm before meals.
For treating Kidney Qi deficiency manifesting as occasional pain in the chest and hypochondrium, soreness and pain in bone joints, frequent blurriness of vision, impaired hearing, stiffness of the back and spine, heavy body with a desire to lie down:

Crush the above ingredients into coarse powder. Take four qian per dose, add one zhong of water and half a fen of fresh ginger, decoct until six parts remain, strain, and take warm before meals.
For treating Kidney Qi deficiency manifesting as heavy body with a desire to lie down, soreness and pain in bone joints, dim vision, tinnitus, frequent fear, tendency to salivate, stiffness and pain in the waist and back, fullness and urgency in the lower abdomen, and lack of taste for food and drink:
Prescription: Rousourong (Cistanches Herba, Cistanche Herb), one and a half liang, soaked in wine, wrinkled skin removed, lightly roasted; Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis, Dendrobium Stem), one liang, roots removed; Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus, Schisandra Berry), one liang; Huangqi (Astragali Membranacei Radix, Astragalus Root), one liang, sliced; Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Salvia Root), one liang (Inferred from "Dan "); Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Angelica Root), one liang, sliced; Fuling (Poria, Poria Sclerotium), one liang, coarse skin removed, roasted until slightly yellow, sliced, wrapped in silk cloth.
