(From "Bao Qing Ji", Chapter 21)
Discussion on the condition of excessive lochia discharge postpartum leading to internal wind due to extreme deficiency. This is primarily because women rely on Ying Blood (Nutritive Blood) as their foundation. During childbirth, excessive blood loss causes Qi to lose its anchor (Qi follows Blood). Clinical manifestations include cyanosis of the lips, cold muscles, profuse cold sweating, closed eyes with unconsciousness, and a critical condition where life hangs in the balance. At this stage, wind-dispelling medications must not be mistakenly used.
Taiyin Xuanjing (A specific mineral ingredient) Wulingzhi (Trogopterus Dung, cleaned of sand and stones) Liuhuang (Sulfur, selecting old red variety) Ruxiang (Frankincense, ground)
Take equal parts of the above four ingredients. Slowly stir-fry over low heat until they form a sandy texture, then grind into an extremely fine powder.
Sangjisheng (Taxilli Ramulus, must be authentic) Chenpi (Dried Tangerine Peel, scraped clean of white pith and weighed accurately) Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin, stir-fried with clam shell powder) Juanbai (Selaginella Tamariscina, roots removed, used raw)
Take equal parts of the above four ingredients. Process them, bake dry, and grind into powder.
Mix and grind the aforementioned eight ingredients together. Use juice from fresh Rehmanniae Radix (Sheng Dihuang) to mix and pound for one thousand repetitions. Shape into pills the size of golden rain tree seeds. Take twenty pills with warm wine or Danggui wine before meals.
Treats all blood disorders postpartum, including lingering and unsmooth lochia, persistent "Erzhen" pain (postpartum abdominal pain caused by blood stasis), and hard accumulations that are firm to touch and cause pain radiating to the heart. Administering this medicine yields effective results in every case; the efficacy is beyond description.
Wulingzhi (Trogopterus Dung, cleaned of sand and stones) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, radix removed) Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome) Gan Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, use fresh Sheng Dihuang) Liangjiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizome)
Take equal parts of the above. Place in a clay crucible. Seal the seams with Red Ochre (Chishizhi), reinforce with paper pulp and salt mud, and seal tightly. Calcine with ten jin of charcoal fire until red hot. Remove from fire and let cool. Open the crucible; when the contents appear as black dregs, take them out and grind finely. Add the following ingredients. (Another version states: use a reed-head clay crucible).
Huarushi (Flower Milk Stone, dosage missing) Hupo (Amber, ground, 1 fen each) Ruxiang (Frankincense, separately ground) Liuhuang (Sulfur, ground, 1.5 qian each) Baicaoshuang (Soot from burning straw, separately ground)
Grind all together into a fine powder. Use rice vinegar boiled into a paste as a binder. Shape into pills the size of bullet seeds. Take one pill per dose. Heat the pill until red hot with charcoal, then drop it into fresh ginger juice and unadulterated wine (one he each) and half a cup of urine. Grind to dissolve and take in one dose for immediate effect.
Treats infertility in women due to long-term coldness of blood and Qi, as well as repeated miscarriages. These conditions arise from deficiency and damage to the Chong and Ren meridians, with chronic cold pathogens in the uterus causing continuous bleeding, menstruation occurring twice within a month, irregular timing (early or late), metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, thirty-six gynecological diseases, accumulations and masses, and disorders above the umbilicus. All these prevent conception and may lead to sterility. This formula also treats various postpartum ailments; regular use within 100 days postpartum eliminates residual pathogenic factors and promotes robust health for childbearing. It is also effective for men suffering from various blood-loss disorders.
Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix) Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis, roots removed, soaked in wine, baked) Gaoben (Ligustici Wallichii Rhizoma et Radix, radix removed) Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried) Canbu (Silk Cloth, burned to ash) Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, stir-fried, 2 liang each) Guipi (Cinnamon Bark, remove coarse skin and tips, stir-fried, 1 liang each) Rougui (Cinnamon Bark, remove coarse skin) Jiangjiang (Dried Ginger, processed) Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, seedlings removed) Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome) Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex, 1.5 liang each) Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) Chuanjiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, remove seeds, stir-fried, half sheng) Nuomi (Glutinous Rice, stir-fried, one sheng) (Another version: Shanzhuyu)
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Knead with refined honey. Make six pills per liang of powder. Take one pill per dose. Chew thoroughly. Take on an empty stomach before meals, with warm wine or vinegar water as desired.
