[Qingzhou Bai Wan Zi (Green White Pill)]
Indicated for hemiplegia in men and women, numbness and stiffness of the hands and feet, deviation of the mouth and eyes, accumulation and obstruction by phlegm-saliva, and all types of wind disorders. It is also suitable for infantile convulsions, adult cephalalgia due to wind (head wind), headache caused by washing hair with exposure to wind, and blood wind in women.
Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (select white and high-quality ones, soak in water and wash, seven taels, used raw) Chuanwu (Fuzi Lateralis Radix Preparata - note: text specifies Chuanwu/Cuau Aconiti Radix, raw, half a tael) Tian Nan Xing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, used raw, three taels)
Pound the above herbs into fine powder, sieve them, and place them in a bag made of raw silk. Use the first draw from a well (well flower water) to swing and rub the bag until the soluble parts are extracted. If there are residues, grind them again, put them back into the silk bag, and continue swinging until fully extracted. Place the liquid in a porcelain basin, expose it to the sun during the day, and leave it outdoors overnight until dawn. Discard the water, add fresh well flower water to stir, and dry again under the sun. The next morning, replace with new water and stir. Repeat this process for five days in spring, three days in summer, seven days in autumn, and ten days in winter. Remove the water and dry until the powder resembles jade flakes. Grind finely again. Use the clear liquid from a glutinous rice porridge as a binder to make pills the size of mung beans. Initial dose: five pills, gradually increased to fifteen pills, taken with ginger decoction, at any time. For flaccid paralysis type stroke, take twenty pills with warm wine, three times a day. After three days, sweating during bathing should occur, allowing the body to relax and move freely. After taking the medicine for three to five days, yawning indicates the therapeutic effect. Regular consumption of about ten pills can permanently prevent disorders caused by wind-phlegm obstruction. For infantile convulsions, take two or three pills with mint decoction.
[Chen Sha Wan (Cinnabar Pill)]
Indicated for excessive wind-phlegm, headache with nausea, mental confusion and lethargy, dizziness, palpitations, vomiting of phlegm-saliva, and oppression and discomfort in the chest and diaphragm.
Borax (ground) Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, ground, one qian each) Baifuzi (Radix Typhonii Preparata) Bai Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, remove silk and head, processed) Tian Nan Xing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, processed until cracked, one liang)
Grind the above herbs into fine powder, mix uniformly. Use water-boiled wheat starch paste as a binder to make pills the size of sophora seeds. Take twenty pills per dose, administered with decoction of Zingiberis Rhizoma and Schizonepetae Herba, at any time.
[Niu Huang Jin Hu Dan (Ox Calculus Gold Tiger Pill)]
Indicated for acute wind-stroke, rigidity and stiffness of the back, locked jaw and aphasia, spasms and tension of sinews and vessels, dry nose and dark complexion, generalized high fever, sweating, mental confusion and stupor, appearance resembling drunkenness, accumulation of phlegm-saliva, and sawing-like sounds in the chest and throat.
Tianxiong (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, processed, remove skin and navel, twelve taels and half a tael) Bai Fan (Alumen, calcined) Tianzhu Huang (Bambusae Spira) Tian Nan Xing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, washed with decoction, dried, powdered, two liang) Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, ground, one qian)
Grind the above herbs into powder. Knead with refined honey. Each one-and-a-half taels of powder makes ten pills, coated with gold leaf. Take one pill per dose. Dissolve in freshly drawn cold water and administer via gavage. Support the patient in a sitting position to facilitate the dispersion of the medicine. After a while, dissolve another pill in natural juice of Mentha Haplocalyx and administer. Recovery will be immediate. Individuals who are obese but physically weak, with excessive phlegm and wind pathogen, should keep this medicine on hand for emergencies. If one suddenly feels darkness before the eyes, oppression and chaos in the heart and diaphragm, and a sensation of phlegm rising threatening collapse, chew one pill immediately if dissolving takes too long, and swallow with freshly drawn cold water. For infantile acute convulsions, a one-year-old child takes one pill the size of a mung bean, dissolved in natural juice of Mentha Haplocalyx and administered. Dosage should be adjusted according to age. Pregnant women must not take this medicine.
