Wang Dingguo, due to exposure to wind, experienced stiffness and tension in the neck and back, dizziness of the head and eyes, and pain in both the Taiyang channel (Taiyang Channel) and the brain. Shan Lao immediately diagnosed his pulse and administered one pill for him to take. While Wang Dingguo chatted with Shan Lao, the symptoms recurred after an hour, so he took two more pills, and the pathogenic factors seemed to vanish instantly. Shan Lao replied, "If you can identify one herb in this formula, I will pass it on to you." After pondering for a long time, Wang guessed herbs such as Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuanxiong) and Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng), but Shan Lao said, "Among them, only one is Angelica Dahurica Root (Baizhi)." Wang was even more amazed by its efficacy. This medicine initially had no name; Wang stated that since it originated from Duliang, it was named accordingly. This medicine is suitable for various types of wind-induced vertigo, for women before and after childbirth who suddenly contract wind pathogens, causing heavy sensation in the head and eyes, as well as blood-wind headache. Taking one or two pills yields excellent results. It also treats sudden cold or warmth leading to unclear mental state, dizziness of the head and eyes.
Angelica Dahurica Root (Xiang Baizhi): Select large pieces of fresh, white, and clean root. First, brush off dust with a brown bristle brush, soak and wash four to five times in boiling water, then dry in the sun.
Grind the above into a fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of a bullet. Take one pill per dose. For best results, chew thoroughly with light tea infused with Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjie). It can be taken regularly after meals without any dietary restrictions; dry chewing is also acceptable. Another method: for heat-type wind, mix with cold wine; for cold-type wind, take with hot wine. Yet another method: chew thoroughly with Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuanxiong) and scallion white, swallowing with clear tea.
To treat Tou Feng (Head Wind) with unbearable pain, it can also be used for nasal insufflation to treat infantile convulsions.
Take seven cloves of garlic. First, heat the ground until red-hot, then sweep away the fire. Peel the garlic and grind each clove into a paste on the red-hot ground. Place one tael of dried silkworm (Jiang Can) that has been roasted and cleaned of legs onto the garlic paste. Cover tightly with a bowl, ensuring no air leaks from the edges. The next day, remove the Jiang Can and grind it into powder. Hold a mouthful of water in your mouth, take a bean-sized amount of the powder, and insufflate it into the nostrils. Relief is immediate.
To treat wind-induced headache refractory to hundred medicines.
