A prescription for treating wind-pathogen invading the brain, causing severe headache, as well as lateral or central headaches, "brain-clamping wind" (headache involving the brain), and pain radiating to the eyebrow bones.
Caowu (Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii, used raw, one liang; another method uses salt-fried) Xinchaye (New Tea Buds) Xixin (Herba Asari, de-radicated, two liang each).
The above herbs are chopped into pieces the size of hemp seeds. Each dose is three qian, boiled with one dan and a half of water, adding a pinch of real Moschus (Shexiang), decocted until reduced to eight fen. Strain and take hot. Another method omits Moschus, grinds the herbs into fine powder, and takes it mixed with clear tea liquor after meals.

For treating severe headache caused by brain wind.
Baihuashe (Whole Body of Deinagkistrodon acutus, bones removed, soaked in wine for three nights, roasted, two liang) Jili (Fructus Tribuli, fried, horns removed, one fen) Bidengqie (Pericarpium Schisandrae Chinensis, twenty fruits) Baifuzi (Rhizoma Typhonii Flagelliformis, five fruits, soaked in wine overnight, sliced, dried by roasting) Manjingzi (Fructus Viticis Negundo, soaked in wine overnight, dried by baking, one fen).
The above herbs are ground into fine powder. Each dose is one qian, taken after meals mixed with natural juice of Mentha haplocalyx (Bohe) and half a zhan of warm wine. Avoid foods that trigger wind.
Yan Situi, Military Commissioner of Hunan, transmitted a method for treating head wind pulling pain.
Huangla (Beeswax, two jin) Yan (Salt, half a jin).
The above two ingredients are mixed and melted together in a tin sieve until fused, then molded into a helmet shape, sized to fit the head down to the forehead. Headache stops immediately upon application.

For treating head wind attacking and causing deviation of the mouth and eyes.
Quanxie (Scorpio, two specimens, detoxified) Chizu Wugong (Centipede, one specimen, vinegar-roasted) Shexiang (Moschus, one zi, separately ground) Chensha (Cinnabar, one zi, separately ground).
The above herbs are ground into fine powder, mixed evenly. Each dose is one zi, taken after meals mixed with warm wine.
The above prescriptions should be taken with Erchen Tang (Two-Cured Decoction) decocted as a drink, followed by Qingzhou Baiwanzi (Qingzhou White Pill), which yields immediate results.

Danxi stated: Vertigo is divided into two categories, both caused by phlegm-fire pathology. Divided into these two types, although vertigo belongs to phlegm-fire, it has never occurred without kidney deficiency combined with wind-pathogen invasion. Phlegm is inherently mobile, and its excess is aggravated by fire. Fire nature flares upward; when combined with wind, it becomes more intense. The movement of wind and fire causes phlegm to arise further. The Classics state: All wind-induced tremors and vertigo belong to Liver Wood. *Yuanbing Shi* states: Wind and fire both belong to Yang, often transforming together. Yang governs movement; when two movements clash, rotation occurs. If a person suffers from this, they experience dizziness, sudden nausea and urge to vomit, blurred vision, sensation of the room spinning, and fainting upon rising. Which meridian is affected causing this suffering? It is said: Stillness and clarity represent the transformation of Water; turmoil and disturbance represent the function of Fire. The brain is generated by Earth Qi, thus storing Yin in the eyes. The pupil is connected to Kidney Water, governed by Supreme Yin. Both prefer stillness and abhor disturbance. Stillness maintains internal clarity; disturbance causes trembling and scattering. Hence, brain rotation and eye vertigo are described as such. *Ling Shu Jing* states: The essence of the five Zang and six Fu organs all ascend to the eyes to form the visual spirit. The essence of sinews, bones, Qi, and blood, along with the vessels, connect to the eyes, ascend to the brain, and emerge from the nape. Therefore, when pathogenic factors strike the nape, taking advantage of bodily deficiency, if deep, they follow the optic system into the brain. Entering the brain causes brain rotation; brain rotation pulls the optic system taut; taut optic system causes eye vertigo. This is necessarily due to Kidney failing to interact, with wind and fire transforming jointly. Wind has internal and external distinctions. Wind entering from outside transforms jointly; wind dispersing from within is generated by fire. Physicians must examine the causes of internal injury and external contraction. Floating pulse with spontaneous sweating and stiff neck indicates wind-strike; tight pulse with no sweating and muscle spasms indicates cold-strike; deficient pulse with irritability indicates summerheat; deep and stagnant pulse with vomiting indicates dampness; both Cun pulses sinking is an anomaly. Regarding internal injuries from the seven emotions, they cause organ Qi imbalance, leading to stagnation producing saliva, condensing into fluid retention, ascending with Qi, causing dizziness, supraorbital pain, and inability to open the eyes. Women often suffer this because women's nature tends toward anger. The Classics say: Heaven's Qi is called wind; human Qi is called anger. Anger injures Liver Wood; Wood movement generates wind, causing head and eye vertigo, all originating from here. Women, originally governed by Yin Blood, may suffer extreme depletion due to difficult childbirth or metrorrhagia, leaving Yang Qi without foundation, resulting in vertigo. Men suffering this may do so due to trauma bleeding or epistaxis, loss from defecation/urination, or sexual activity while drunk, damaging essence and blood. Kidney Qi fails to return to its origin, causing various Qi to rebel upward, resulting in head and eye vertigo. Students of medicine must distinguish root and branch, assess excess and deficiency, and apply medication accordingly, achieving efficacy as swiftly as a drumbeat responding to a drumstick.
