To treat injuries from falls, blows, cuts by metal blades, or arrowheads, where the injured area is swollen and edematous, use this prescription.
*Zijinpi* (Vernonia anthelmintica, stir-fried with vinegar), *Arisaema cum Bile* (Nanxing), *Pinellia Rhizoma Preparatum* (Banxia), *Radix Angelicae Sinensis* (Chuan Danggui), *Cortex Phellodendri* (Huangbai, stir-fried with salt), *Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii Preparata* (Caowu, processed), *Radix Aconiti Carmichaelii Preparata* (Chuanwu, processed), *Radix Panacis Japonensis* (Du Danggui), *Rhizoma Chuanxiong* (Chuanxiong), *Lindera Root* (Wuyao), *Fructus Psoraleae* (Pogu Zhi), *Angelicae Dahuricae Radix* (Chuan Baizhi, stir-fried with salt water), *Herba Siegesbeckiae* (Liujinu), *Cyathulae Radix* (Chuan Niuxi), *Morus Alba Cortex* (Sangbaipi) [all in equal proportions].
Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. Mix with juice of fresh ginger and mint along with water to form a paste, and apply externally to the swollen area. If the skin at the injury site is excessively hot, add half tael of raw *Cortex Phellodendri* (Huangbopi) and *Rehmanniae Radix* (Sheng Dihuang). If there is an open wound, do not seal the sore; apply the medication only around the periphery.
For treating bone joint injuries where bones are dislocated and out of place, use this prescription for anesthesia before manual reduction.
*Angelicae Dahuricae Radix* (Baizhi), *Rhizoma Chuanxiong* (Chuanxiong), *Momordicae Semen* (Mubiezi), *Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus* (Zhuya Zaojiao), *Lindera Root* (Wuyao), *Pinellia Rhizoma Preparatum* (Banxia), *Zijinpi*, *Radix Panacis Japonensis* (Du Danggui), *Radix Aconiti Carmichaelii Preparata* (Chuanwu) [each two taels], *Foeniculi Fructum* (Boshang Huixiang), *Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii* (Caowu) [two taels], *Costi Rhizoma* (Muxiang) [half tael].
Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. For cases of shattered bones, fractures, or dislocations, take one qian each time, mixed with good wine. Once the patient becomes numb and loses sensation, if surgical incision is required to cut open or remove bone fragments, manual reduction can be performed. Align the bones and tendons to their correct anatomical positions, then secure them with splints and bandages before proceeding with further treatment. If an arrowhead is embedded in the bone and cannot be removed easily, this medicine can also be used for anesthesia, followed by removal with iron pliers or chiseling out. If the patient is unconscious, administer salt water or saline solution orally to restore consciousness immediately.
For treating broken skin and severed tendons.
Apply the above-mentioned *Liquidambaris Resina* (Baijiaoxiang) ground into powder topically. Another method: grind the root of *Antennariae Herba* (Jinfeigencao) to extract juice, apply it to the severed tendon to seal the wound, which will facilitate healing and relieve pain.
For treating pain in the hands and feet after fractures, caused by invasion of the four pathogenic factors (wind, cold, summerheat, dampness).
*Fructus Psoraleae* (Pogu Zhi), *Drynariae Rhizoma* (Gusuibu, de-haired), *Atractylodis Rhizoma* (Cangzhu, raw), *Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii* (Caowu) [each half jin], *Scalpa Manis* (Chuanshanjia, membrane removed, stir-fried with mulberry branch ash until puffed up; other plant ashes may also be used), *Foeniculi Fructum* (Boshang Huixiang, stir-fried) [each six taels].
Take half jin of Caowu, chop it finely. Grind one jin of fresh ginger into a pulp, mix with the Caowu, and soak for two nights. Dry the mixture by baking, then grind into powder. Use wine-boiled wheat flour paste to make pills, sized like wutong seeds. Take fifty pills each time, swallowed with wine or rice soup. Avoid consuming hot foods for a period after administration.
