To treat back carbuncles and sores, as well as various malignant ulcers and boils, the efficacy is miraculous. When treating yu diseases (deep-seated suppurative infections), first apply Maifan Shi Gao (Wheat Meal Stone Powder) to the affected area. Wait until the base of the ulcer gradually recedes to a diameter of about one cun, then apply Shenyi Gao (Miraculous Ointment) to promote healing and closure. This medicine takes effect according to the depth of the patient's disease. During preparation, it must not be seen by women, chickens, dogs, cats, or other unclean substances.
Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix, 0.5 liang) Mian Huang Qi (Astragali Radix, 3 fen) Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen, peeled, core removed, sliced, 1 liang) Quan She Tui (Bombyx Batryticatus, washed with salt water, dried, 0.5 liang) Nanzhi Luang Fa (Human Hair, cleaned, dried, 0.5 liang) Lu Feng Fang (Vespa Urticans Nest, cleaned and chopped, 1 liang; preferably those containing larvae) Huang Dan (Lithargyrum, refined through fine sieve, 5 liang) Zhen Ma You (Sesame Oil, 1 jin)
First, place the sesame oil and hair together in a silver pot. Boil using alternating mild and strong heat until the hair is charred and completely melted. Then add Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen). Once the almonds turn black, filter out the dregs using good cotton cloth. Pour the clarified oil back into the pot, then add Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) and Huang Qi (Astragali Radix). Simmer slowly for one to two shichen (4-8 hours). Remove the pot from the fire and place it on a cold stove for half an hour or more. As the heat subsides, quickly add Lu Feng Fang (Vespa Urticans Nest) and She Tui (Bombyx Batryticatus). Stir vigorously with a willow branch. Return the pot to the fire, stirring constantly with the willow branch over low heat until the mixture turns purple-yellow. Filter through cotton cloth. Pour the clear oil back into the pot. While still warm, add Huang Dan (Lithargyrum) and stir rapidly for a moment. Return the pot to the fire and simmer slowly over mild heat, stirring continuously with a willow branch for over a thousand turns. When the medicinal oil turns black and forms beads when dropped into water, the ointment is ready. If the beads are loose, boil for a short while longer until the consistency is correct. Store in porcelain containers, sealed for future use. If the ointment becomes too hard due to excessive heat, melt a small amount of wax with sesame oil in the container. Seal in porcelain, steam over a steamer, and stir while hot to adjust the consistency. After the ointment is prepared, place the porcelain container in clean water to remove "fire toxicity" for one full day and night. Let it rest for three days before use. Change the dressing twice daily and once at night. The most difficult aspect of preparing this ointment is controlling the heat. One must patiently monitor the intensity. Excessive heat causes the medicinal properties to dissipate, loses efficacy, and can severely burn the face and eyes, with no remedy available. Exercise extreme caution. There are dozens of ointment formulas, but none surpass this one in miraculous efficacy for treating yu diseases. It is worth a thousand gold pieces and is particularly effective for injuries from beating.
