The composition of this medicine harmonizes yin and yang, evenly regulates the balance of yin and yang, absorbs the harmonious qi of heaven and earth, and is a formula for the mutual interaction of fire and water. Its nature can be cooling or heating, and its action can be relaxing or urgent.
It effectively treats disharmony between Ying (nutritive) and Wei (defensive) qi, nourishes the heart and kidneys, regulates the ascending and descending of qi, addresses excess above and deficiency below, qi closure with phlegm syncope, cold pain in the heart and abdomen, and deficiency-cold with slipping of the zang-fu organs. Regardless of gender, age, or critical condition, as long as Stomach Qi exists, recovery is assured. It tonifies damage, supports deficiency, saves yin, and assists yang, yielding remarkable efficacy.
Bo Shang Liu Huang (Sulfur imported from overseas, select transparent pieces without sand or stones) Xiao Shi (Natrii Sulfas), each one liang. Grind together with Liu Huang into powder. Place in a Ding Pan (scale pan), warm-fry over low fire, stirring constantly with a willow twig to allow yin and yang energies to merge. Do not overheat, lest it damage the medicinal power. Then grind extremely fine. Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), remove the white pith; Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), remove the white pith; Wu Ling Zhi (Trogopterori Faeces), select those from Wushou Mountain, grind fine, clarify with water to remove sand and stones, dry. Each of the above is two liang. Tai Yin Xuan Jing Shi (Calcitum Nigrum), two liang, grind separately into fine powder.
First, grind Wu Ling Zhi, Qing Pi, and Chen Pi into fine powder. Mix with Xuan Jing Shi powder and Xiao Shi/Liu Huang powder. Use good wine and vinegar to boil wheat paste for binding. Form pills the size of pea seeds. Take thirty pills per dose, swallowed with millet gruel broth on an empty stomach. For severe cases, take fifty pills. For newborn infants, take one pill. For children with slow convulsive wind, or persistent vomiting and diarrhea leading to deficiency-wind tremors (not external wind, but due to impending exhaustion of Stomach Qi), crush five pills and administer with rice drink. For elderly people suffering from latent summer-heat causing coma and oppression, administer with Zi Su Tang (Perillae Leaf Decoction). For postpartum women with blood mist, qi rushing upward causing fainting, continuous lochia, and red-and-white leukorrhea, administer with vinegar water. Regular use harmonizes yin and yang, benefits spirit, disperses damp-cold in the waist and kidneys, and stops cold pain in the abdomen and hypochondrium, yielding immediate results. For diseases where yin-yang patterns cannot be distinguished, this formula is suitable.
Moxibustion Method
When both Kidney and Bladder are deficient, moxa-burnen Shu Yu (BL23, Shenshu) acupoints. These are located on either side of the umbilicus, posteriorly along the spine, one cun five fen away from the midline. This also treats turbid urine and seminal emission, deficiency-labor and stubborn coldness of the five zang organs, string-tight sensation in the lower abdomen, nocturnal emissions, and premature ejaculation. Moxa-burn San Yin Jiao (SP6, Sanyinjiao) seven moxa cones. This point is located above the medial malleolus on the major vessel, approximately four finger-widths up. For extreme deficiency of all kinds, moxa-burn Gao Huang Shu (BL43, Gaohuangshu) and Qi Hai (CV6, Qihai). The more moxa cones used, the better.
