Powder the flowers of *Daphne genkwa* (Yuanhua, a plant whose root bark is used in medicine) growing on top. Take one qian (approximately 3-5 grams) per dose, administered with fresh well water. The treatment is considered effective when toxins are expelled.
During the Chongning era of the Northern Song Dynasty, five monks from Baiyun Temple on Mount Taiping in Suzhou discovered a large cluster of mushrooms while walking in the mountains. They picked and boiled them for food. That night, they developed vomiting symptoms. Three monks hastily gathered fresh *Lonicera japonica* (Yin-yang Cao, Honeysuckle vine) and ate it raw, after which they recovered. The other two were reluctant to eat it and died from vomiting. This herb grows as a vine, producing opposite yellow-and-white flowers, and is found everywhere near water and mountainsides. It is particularly effective in treating carbuncles, sores, and toxic swellings. It can be taken internally or applied externally. People today call it Jinyinhua (Honeysuckle), also known as Laowengxu (Old Man's Beard). In materia medica texts, it is named Rendongcao (*Lonicera japonica*).
Treating Gu Poison: During the Jiayou era of the Song Dynasty, Fan Libu Dao, who served as the Prefect of Fuzhou, stated that an inscription on a stone revealed the following method: "For anyone suffering from Gu poison, regardless of how long ago the poisoning occurred, boil one duck egg, insert a silver needle into it, and hold it in the mouth. After approximately the time it takes to eat one meal, remove it and inspect. If both the needle and the egg turn black, poisoning is confirmed." The prescription uses Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis, 2 liang), Liuhuang (Sulfur, powdered, 1 qian), Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Shexiang (Moschus), Qingfen (Calomelas), each in small amounts; Nuomi (Oryzae Semen Glutinosum, 20 grains); Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 3 cun, half raw and half roasted). Use ten parts water, decoct in a bottle until seven parts remain. When wrinkles form on the surface of the liquid, it is ready. Filter through fine silk to remove dregs. Administer orally in one go. The patient should lie flat on their back with the head elevated. When the patient feels something rushing towards the heart, after three doses, severe vomiting will occur. Collect the vomitus in a basin or bucket; substances resembling fish are the evil toxins. After vomiting, drink a cup of tea; diarrhea is acceptable. Immediately brew white porridge to nourish the body. Avoid cold, raw, greasy, and pickled foods for ten days. Afterwards, take 3-5 pills of Jiedu Wan (Detoxification Pill). Recovery occurs within ten days.
Treating Gu Poison: Baigupi (Broken Drum Skin), Cantuizhi (Silkworm Cast Skin), Ciwei Pi (Hedgehog Skin), Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis), Xuisui Zi (Euphorbiae Lathyridis Fructus), Zhusha (Cinnabaris, ground), Xionghuang (Realgar, ground), all in equal parts. Grind these into a fine powder. Mix with thin rice paste to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take seven pills per dose on an empty stomach, washed down with warm water.
Treating Gu Poison and venom from insects, snakes, livestock, and beasts: Xionghuang (Realgar), Mingfanji (Alumen, raw use), in equal parts. On the day of the Dragon Boat Festival, grind these together finely. Mix with melted beeswax to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take seven pills per dose, reciting the names of the Medicine King Bodhisattva and the Medicine Up Bodhisattva seven times, washed down with plain boiled water.
