Treats various types of Lin syndrome (characterized by frequent, short, and astringent urination, stinging pain, incomplete emptying, and urgency or pain in the lower abdomen radiating to the waist) causing obstruction of urination. All such cases may take this prescription.
Chenxiang (Aquilaria Lignum), Hupo (Fossilia Succini), Tongcao (Tetrapanacis Medulla), Wangyougen (Hemerocallis Radix), Xu (Dianthi Herba), Xiaohuixiang (Foeniculi Fructus, stir-fried), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Qilinjie (Dragon's Blood), Huashi (Talcum), Haijinsha (Lygodii Spora), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) (each half liang).
The above ingredients are crushed into a coarse powder. Each dose is one liang, decocted with two and a half zhan of water, one bundle of Dengxincao (Junci Medulla), ten leaves of Zhuye (Bambusae Folium), and three stalks of Congbai (Allii Cepae Bulbus including roots). Decoct until only seven-tenths of the liquid remains, strain, and take warm on an empty stomach before meals. If there are hard stool masses, add Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) half liang; if urinary tract astringency and pain worsen, add Shanzhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) half liang; if hematuria occurs, add Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) one liang. Decoct using flowing water (considered cold in nature to clear heat); it is extremely effective.
Treats the astringency and pain of the Five Lin syndromes (typically referring to Stone Lin, Qi Lin, Paste Lin, Fatigue Lin, and Heat Lin).
Haijinsha (Lygodii Spora), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried) (each two qian above), Chi Fuling (Poria cum Ligno), Zhuling (Polyporus), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) (each three qian above), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) (five qian), Huashi (Talcum) (seven qian), Shiwei (Pyrosiae Folium) (one qian).
The above ingredients are ground into a fine powder. Each dose is three qian, decocted with one zhan of water and thirty stems of Dengxincao (Junci Medulla). Decoct until seven-tenths of the liquid remains, strain, and take warm on an empty stomach.
Treats the Five Lin syndromes.
Hupo (Fossilia Succini), Huashi (Talcum) (each two liang), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Yujin (Curcumae Longae Rhizoma), Xu (Dianthi Herba) (each one liang).
The above ingredients are powdered. Each dose is five qian, decocted with one zhan of water and five reed leaves. Take before meals, three times daily.
Huashi (Talcum) (four liang), Fuling (Poria), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Beimu (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus), Tongcao (Tetrapanacis Medulla), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) (each two liang).
The above ingredients are powdered. Take with wine using a Fangcunbi (ancient measuring spoon for powder, approx. one modern spoonful), twice daily. Recovery expected within ten days.
Treats insufficiency of Kidney Qi, heat in the Bladder, obstruction of the urinary pathway, dribbling and incomplete voiding, small volume but frequent urination, urgent and painful sensation in the umbilical and abdominal region, with symptoms occurring intermittently. It also treats urine resembling bean juice, urine containing sand-like stones, cold Lin discharging paste-like material, or hot Lin causing hematuria. All these conditions are treated by this formula.
Shanzhizi Ren (Gardeniae Semen), Chi Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra, remove rhizome, cut into pieces) (each twenty liang, another version uses Bai Shaoyao), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, remove rhizome), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, raw use) [Note: Original text appears truncated here regarding dosage].
The above ingredients are ground into a fine powder. Each dose is two qian, decocted with one zhan of water until eight-tenths remain. Take on an empty stomach before meals. Alternatively, mix with Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria), and administer using decoction made from Zhu Yuansui (Coriandri Fructus), Mendongcao (Ophiopogonis Herba), Congtou (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus), and Dengxincao (Junci Medulla).
