[Formula 1: Carp and Bean Decoction]
Select a large carp, wash it clean to remove mud, open its belly, and insert half a liang of Sichuan pepper powder and two or three cloves of sliced garlic into the fish's abdomen. Sew the belly shut. Boil it together with one sheng of Adzuki beans (Vigna angularis). When nearly cooked, add three to five radishes (about the size of a finger) and a handful of chopped scallions. Cook until done. Consume on an empty stomach. Eat as much as possible, including the beans and other ingredients. By nightfall, excessive flatulence will be discharged. Repeat this dose every three to five days to expel all noxious qi from the body.
[Formula 2: Achyranthes and Aconite Pills]
Indications: Deficiency of Liver and Kidney, invaded by Wind-Cold-Dampness toxicity, which flows and accumulates in the legs and knees, causing severe joint pain (Li Jie pain), described as feeling like being pierced by awls or forged knives, unbearable in nature.
Ingredients: Xu Duan / Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Liang Liang, remove rhizome, use dried Huai variety); Chuan Wu Tou / Aconiti Radix (Ten authentic pieces, crushed, placed in a silk bag, steamed together with one dou of black soybeans for one day, then removed; discard the beans; removing skin and tips is ideal).
Preparation and Administration: Do not use copper or iron vessels, nor expose the herbs to fire or sunlight. Crush the Achyranthes root in a wooden mortar, then grind it into powder using a stone mill. Mix with wine and flour paste to form pills the size of Sophora seeds (Wu Tong zi). Take forty pills per dose, administered with one bottle of unadulterated wine containing slices of a medium-sized Chaenomeles fruit (Mu Gua), which has been simmered until soft. Use this wine to swallow the pills at any time. Regarding the notion that "Liver Qi fears iron," while some avoid iron, avoiding fire and sun is considered an unnecessary taboo by over-cautious individuals. Moreover, herbs like Aconite and Achyranthes are naturally dried in the shade during collection.
[Formula 3: Meridian-Unblocking Pain-Relieving Pills]
Indications: Cold-Dampness obstructing the meridians, resulting in swelling and pain in the waist and feet, and difficulty walking.
Ingredients: Dang Gui / Angelicae Sinensis Radix (washed with wine, baked); Chi Xiao Dou / Adzuki Beans (used raw); Di Long / Pheretima (cleaned of soil, stir-fried); Tian Gua Zi / Benincasae Semen (used raw); Mu Gua / Fructus Chaenomelis (peeled, baked); Wei Ling Xian / Clematidis Radix et Rhizoma (cleaned of soil); Bai Jiao Xiang / Elemi Resin (ground separately); Gu Sui Bu / Drynariae Rhizoma (hairs removed); Hai Tong Pi / Cortex Santali Rubri (coarse bark removed); Wu Yao / Litseae Fructus; Cao Wu Tou / Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix (skin and tips removed); Wu Ling Zhi / Trogopterori Faeces (stir-fried); Yun Tai Zi / Brassicae Chinensis Semen (stir-fried). All ingredients are used in equal proportions.
Preparation and Administration: Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Mix with wine-boiled flour paste to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take fifteen to twenty pills per dose on an empty stomach, washed down with warm wine or salt water. Administer twice daily.
[Formula 4: Pilules for Dry and Damp Hongxiangjiao]
Indications: Dry and damp forms of Hongxiangjiao (Gout/Podagra affecting the feet).
Ingredients: Gu Wen Qian / Ancient Coins (ten pieces, quenched in vinegar); Hai Jin Sha / Spora Lygodii; Hu Gu / Pantheris Os (stir-fried with wine until crisp); Rou Gui / Cinnamomi Cortex (not exposed to direct fire, each of these half a liang); Ban Mao / Mylabris (remove head, feet, and wings); Ru Xiang / Olibanum (ground separately); Mo Yao / Myrrha (ground separately); Zhu Sha / Cinnabar (ground for coating, each of these three qian).
Preparation and Administration: Grind all ingredients into a fine powder and mix uniformly. Form pills the size of mung beans using wine-boiled flour paste, coated with Cinnabar. Take seven pills per dose on an empty stomach, administered with Moschus-infused wine. Visible improvement is expected after three doses.
