In a state of trance and obscurity, the mind appears infatuated; this harmonious fusion is precisely the time when the medicinal substance (Yao) arises. When the Dantian sends its signal and the opportunity arrives, one must swiftly prepare the fire techniques to harvest the Jade Mushroom (Yu Zhi). This Elixir is endowed by one's parents and stored in the Qi Gate (Qi Xue). In youth and vigor, there exists a mechanism for outward transformation at the closing gates; seizing this transformative mechanism and reversing it into the Yellow Court (Huang Zhong), it is thus called the Elixir. However, when the Elixir arises, there are visible signs. The *Daodejing* states: "Vague and elusive, yet within it there is substance; profound and dark, yet within it there is essence." Niwan said: "When spirit and essence merge in darkness and Qi returns, the flesh and bones fuse without awareness." True Person Yin said: "Suddenly, pores emit energy, limbs become like cotton, and the mind feels trance-like; this is the scene of the Elixir arising." There is also an audible signal. Shao Zi said: "Suddenly, a thunderclap at midnight, opening doors and windows one after another." Hunran Zi said: "When the time comes, Qi transforms; when movement occurs, reeds sing; this is the arrival of the signal." The arrival of the signal corresponds to the Living Zi Hour (Huo Zi Shi). Upon hearing this signal, one must immediately prepare the fire techniques, without missing a moment; if missed face-to-face, how can one harvest the Jade Mushroom in an instant?
Suddenly beholding a single grain of the Primal Elixir, its light blazing bright like a golden pill. Without controlling the Xun Wind and pumping the bellows, even with desire, passing through the passes is difficult. A single grain of Golden Elixir, round and bright, shining like a golden pill. If one does not blow the Xun Wind and pump the bellows, how can one pass the Tailbone Pass (Weilü), ascend the Double Passes of the Clavicle Spine (Jiaji), and reach Niwan, to enter the Dantian? The *Ru Yao Jing* states: "Raise the Xun Wind, operate the Kun Fire." Xiao Zixu said: "The bellows and drumming of Qian and Kun have their measures." The Xun Wind metaphorically refers to the breath. The Bellows (Yue) refers to regulation. With breath, one can pump and regulate, causing the medicinal substance to rise and descend, returning to complete one Great Circulation (Zhou Tian). Liu Huayang said: In the Way of the Golden Elixir, from the moment Yang arises, one focuses the spirit into the Qi Gate, stirs up the Xun Wind of the bellows, breathing continuously as if blowing into the furnace, similar to the pulling action of a blacksmith's hand. When wind arises, flames ignite; when flames ignite, Essence transforms. As Essence transforms into Qi, harvesting this vital Qi and circulating it upward and downward is called the Great Circulation.
