Answer: Wind refers to the air currents from the eight directions across the four seasons. Its nature is usually observed on the Winter Solstice. Wind coming from its proper direction nourishes all things; wind not coming from its proper direction is named Xuexie Zeifeng (Empty Evil and Robber Wind). When persons with weak constitutions are affected by it, disease arises according to their specific deficiencies. The Shu points of the five zang and six fu organs are all located on the back. Once the zang-fu are deficient, evil pathogens enter through the deficiency and cause damage, manifesting according to the affected organ. If the patient can speak, it is treatable; if they cannot speak, it is difficult to treat. If the Taiyang Meridian is injured and combined with cold-dampness, resulting in trismus (lockjaw) and rigidity of the back, it is named [Chi] (Spasm/Crisis). Therefore, when occurring during pregnancy, characterized by dizziness, fainting, loss of consciousness, followed by waking up after a moment, only to relapse, it is named Zixian (Eclampsia of Pregnancy), also known as Zimao (Pregnancy Dizziness/Fainting). Over time, it may transform into [other conditions]. Sudden fainting during pregnancy with eyes staring straight ahead and loss of recognition, waking up after a moment, then relapsing appearing unconscious, is named [Disease Name Missing], also called Zixian, also called Zimao. Use Gegen Tang (Kudzu Decoction) for treatment. If bamboo is nearby and readily available, prepare Zhuli Tang (Bamboo Sap Decoction) first. If bamboo is distant and not immediately available, prepare Gegen Tang first. These two substances are particularly effective in treating various [Chi/Spasms] and can absolutely revive the dying. For infants suddenly suffering from epilepsy or spasms, treating them with methods for golden wounds (trauma) is also effective. The method for making bamboo sap is as follows:
Take newly felled green Danzhu (Qingdanzhu), cut it, remove the nodes at both ends, slice it, and place it vertically on bricks so that both ends hang empty. Burn the center and both ends to extract the juice, collect it in a vessel, and administer orally.
Gegen Tang (Kudzu Decoction) treats eclampsia of pregnancy near term, caused by wind invasion, leading to sudden confusion, loss of consciousness, vomiting, restlessness, frequent waking, and relapse.
