A temperament that is irritable and prone to excessive qi (vital energy) stagnation damages the liver and stirs the Chong and Ren vessels. It is appropriate to use Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) with the addition of Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Ginseng), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, Bupleurum Root), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, Baical Skullcap Root), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, Coptis Rhizome), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Licorice Root). Take on an empty stomach. Administer with hot water.
A temperament that is irritable and prone to excessive qi stagnation damages the liver and stirs the Chong and Ren vessels. If pungent and hot-natured drugs are mistakenly taken, leading to recurrent menstruation, one can take the medicine as described above. Additionally, take San Bu Wan (Three Tonifying Pills).
For those with a robust physique, excessive phlegm, and qi deficiency, it is appropriate to use Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) combined with Cang Sha Wan (Atractylodes and Cyperus Pill), with the addition of Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Sichuan Lovage Rhizome), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese Angelica), and Zhiqiao (Aurantii Fructus, Bitter Orange). Take before meals. Cang Sha Dao Tan Wan (Atractylodes and Cyperus Phlegm-Expelling Pill) should also be taken before meals.
Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, Atractylodes Rhizome), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma, Nutgrass Galingale Rhizome), Zhiqiao (Aurantii Fructus, Bitter Orange) (each 2 liang), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, Tangerine Peel), Fuling (Poria, Poria) (each 1.5 liang), Danxing (Arisaema cum Bile, Bile Arisaema), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Licorice Root) (each 1 liang). Grind into powder. Mix with ginger juice.
For those with a thin physique, spleen and stomach weakness, and qi and blood deficiency, it is appropriate to use Shi Quan Da Bu Tang (Ten Complete Great Tonification Decoction).
For spleen and stomach weakness and qi and blood insufficiency, treatment should focus on deficiency. Take Jia Jian Ba Wu Tang (Modified Eight Substances Decoction) along with Wu Ji Wan (Black Chicken Pill).
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Ginseng) (3 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, White Atractylodes Rhizome), Fuling (Poria, Poria), Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata cum Melle, Honey-fried Licorice Root) (each 5 qian), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, White Peony Root), Danggui Shen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese Angelica root body), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, Tangerine Peel), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma, Nutgrass Galingale Rhizome), Danpi (Moutan Cortex, Tree Peony Bark) (each 1 qian). Take before meals.
(Specifically treats spleen and stomach weakness, damage to the Chong and Ren vessels, qi and blood insufficiency, and irregular menstruation. For all those who are infertile, taking this is remarkably effective.)
White-feathered black-boned chicken (one uncastrated rooster, weighing about 1 jin. Feed with non-glutinous rice. Do not allow it to eat insects or ants for seven days. Strangle it with a rope. Dry for use. Place Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix, Unprepared Rehmannia Root), Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, Prepared Rehmannia Root), Tiandong (Asparagi Radix, Asparagus Root), and Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, Dwarf Lilyturf Tuber), each 2 liang, inside the chicken's belly. Use ten bowls of good wine to simmer until thoroughly cooked. Then remove the medicine from the belly. Dry the chicken with its bones over mulberry wood fire. Then soak it again in the wine used to simmer the Shengdi and other medicines mentioned earlier, and dry it again. Continue until the chicken's bones and meat are completely dried, then grind into powder.) ([Wu's note] The origin of this wine is unknown. Using only aged, ash-free rice wine is also acceptable.)
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Ginseng) (5 qian), Congrong (Cistanches Herba, Cistanche, washed with wine and dried), Guzhi (Psoraleae Fructus, Psoralea Fruit, stir-fried), Sharen (Amomi Fructus, Amomum Fruit), Danggui Shen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Chinese Angelica root body), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, White Atractylodes Rhizome), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Sichuan Lovage Rhizome), Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Salvia Root), Fuling (Poria, Poria), Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex, Eucommia Bark, stir-fried with salt), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma, Nutgrass Galingale Rhizome, soaked in vinegar, 4 liang). Grind into powder. Add the powdered chicken bones and meat prepared above, and mix evenly. Make into pills using wine and flour paste. Take on an empty stomach with wine. Alternatively, take 50 pills with rice water.
