Ren Shen (2.5 qian), Bai Zhu, Dang Gui, Fu Ling, Ban Xia (each 1 qian), Cao Guo (3 fen), Gan Cao, Qing Pi (each 4 fen), Huo Xiang (5 fen), Wu Mei (3 pieces), decocted in water and taken orally. Subsequently, take Shen Shu Gao.
Shen Shu Gao preparation: Bai Zhu (washed and dried) and Ren Shen (each 4 liang), add six bowls of water. Decoct to obtain one and a half bowls of juice. Then, decoct the dregs again using the same method three times, collecting a total of six bowls of juice. Take half a wine glass of this juice daily, mixed with the aforementioned medicines; or it can be taken with plain boiled water.
When the infant is delivered postpartum, E Lu (lochia, residual blood and turbid fluid discharged after childbirth) is expelled along with it, so there is no abdominal pain from masses, and the body feels naturally comfortable. If the abdomen loses coverage and warmth, or is exposed to cold or cool substances, E Lu will coagulate into masses, giving rise to various deficiency syndromes, such as abdominal distension, fever, bone-steaming tidal fever (a sensation of heat emanating from the bones), five-palm heat (heat and discomfort in both palms, both soles, and the chest), poor appetite, emaciation, symptoms resembling malaria, amenorrhea, pain in the hypochondriac region caused by masses, borborygmus (rumbling sounds in the intestines), gastric嘈杂 (discomfort and hunger pangs in the stomach), dizziness, and intermittent fever. The treatment method should follow Zhu Danxi's principle: "To drain the pathogenic factor, first tonify the deficiency." Use Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (an herbal formula for tonifying the middle and augmenting qi, raising yang, and lifting depression) to administer San Xiao Wan (an herbal formula for resolving accumulations and promoting digestion), thereby dissipating the masses without weakening the person. If one only eliminates the masses without tonification, not only will the masses not be completely resolved, but food intake will gradually decrease, potentially leading to an inability to eat at all.
Formula: Ren Shen, Bai Shao, Huang [Note: likely Huang Qin or Huang Qi], Bai Zhu (2 qian), Dang Gui (2 qian), Chen Pi, Gan Cao (each 4 fen), Sheng Jiang (3 slices). Decoct in water. Administer 50-60 pills of San Xiao Wan with the decoction.
Postpartum constipation occurs due to blood deficiency causing intestinal dryness. In weak postpartum women, if Sheng Hua Tang (an herbal formula for invigorating blood, dispelling stasis, warming meridians, and relieving pain) is taken frequently, qi will flourish and blood will become abundant, naturally eliminating symptoms of bowel obstruction. Practitioners must absolutely avoid using Mang Xiao (Natrii Sulfas) or Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) to purge, as this would severely deplete body fluids, worsening constipation, leading to abdominal fullness, or even uncontrollable diarrhea. One should exclusively use Sheng Hua Tang, modified according to the specific condition.
Formula: Chuan Xiong (8 qian), Dang Gui (4 qian), Tao Ren (10 kernels), Zhi Gan Cao (5 fen), Chen Pi (4 fen), Ma Ren (fried and crushed, 1.5 qian). If there is pain caused by blood masses, add Rou Gui (Cinnamon Bark) and Yuan Hu Suo (Corydalis Rhizome) (each 5 fen). Decoct in water and take slightly warm before meals. For qi deficiency with sweating, add Ren Shen and Huang Qi (Astragali Radix) (each 1 qian). For excessive sweating with thirst, add Ren Shen, Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (each 1.5 qian), and Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus) (8 grains). If stool is dry and hard, persisting for more than ten days, there will inevitably be dry feces in the anus. Insert a honey-jujube into the anus, and the feces will soften and pass naturally; or blow sesame oil into the anus using a bamboo tube; or use pig bile. Alternatively, boil white honey until it becomes a brown paste, form it into jujube-sized pellets, and dissolve in water for use.
