*Medical Outline* states: For Qi sinking, use herbs that lift Qi processed into charcoal to stop bleeding, such as *Prunella vulgaris* (Xiakucao) and *Schizonepeta* (Jingjie). For Blood heat, use herbs that cool Blood processed into charcoal to stop bleeding, such as *Stellariae Herba* (Huaihua) and *Scutellariae Radix* (Huangqin). For Qi stagnation, use herbs that move Qi processed into charcoal to stop bleeding, such as Cyperus Rhizome (Xiangfu) stir-fried with vinegar until black. For Blood stasis and turbidity, use processed *Puxiao San* (Shixiao San). For Blood cold, use warm-natured herbs processed into charcoal to stop bleeding, such as *Cinnamomi Cortex* (Guixin) and *Zingiberis Rhizoma* (Ganjiang). For Blood depletion, use astringent herbs, such as *Alumen* (Baijian), *Baicaoshuang*, and Palm Ash (Zonghui).
Shen Zhai's commentary: The above thirteen items outline the formulas and theories for treating metrorrhagia and metrostaxis (beng lou). *Ji Yin Gang Mu* records more formulas and theories than this; these few formulas are explained in detail, concise, and practically useful, so they are selected and recorded.
*Mai Jue Ju Yao* states: In metrorrhagia and metrostaxis with vaginal bleeding, if the pulse is slow, small, deficient, and slippery, the prognosis is good (life); if the pulse is rapid, urgent, large, excess, tight, or rapid-numerous, the prognosis is poor (death). If the Cun and Chi positions of the pulse are deficient, it indicates leakage of blood; if the pulse is floating, the prognosis is poor and difficult to treat.
*Suzhou Wen* states: Disease of the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) causes seven types of hernias internal knotting in men, and leukorrhea and abdominal masses in women.
Wang Bing's commentary: The Ren Mai originates from the uterus, passes upward through the Dai Mai (Girdle Vessel), penetrates above the navel, and originates from the lateral costal region at the Zhangmen acupoint. It resembles a belt binding around, hence it is called "dai xia" (leukorrhea disease below the belt).
*Suzhou Wen* states: When Spleen disease transmits to the Kidney, it is named Shan Jia (hernia and mass). The Small Intestine is bound by grievance causing pain, discharging white matter, named Bai Gu (white蛊), discharging white urine. It also says, there is grievous heat in the lower abdomen, discharging white fluid in urine.
*Suzhou Wen* states: Endless thinking, unfulfilled desires, mental lust directed outward, and excessive sexual intercourse lead to Bai Yin (white discharge).
Wang Bing's commentary: Bai Yin refers to white matter overflowing and flowing out, resembling semen. In men, it is discharged during urination; in women, it flows continuously from the vagina.
Shen Zhai's commentary: The above three passages from the classics describe leukorrhea as a disease of the Ren Mai and Small Intestine Meridian. Its etiology may result from endless thinking or excessive sexual intercourse. The Bai Gu, Bai Ye, and Bai Yin mentioned in the classics belong to the category of male Bai Zhuo (white turbid urine). Female leukorrhea also belongs to white discharge. Wang Taipu considered the continuous flow from the vagina to be leukorrhea. However, endless thinking and excessive sexual intercourse constitute Zheng Yi (nocturnal emission), which differs from leukorrhea syndrome. Since ancient experts discussing leukorrhea must cite several classic passages as evidence, they are recorded here.
