[Dai Yuanli] "Ke Re" (Guest Heat) refers to heat caused by excessive use of warming and tonifying treatments in a body that is deficient, combined with external heat pathogens invading. It is not heat generated internally by the Zang-Fu organs themselves; hence it is termed "Guest Heat." Its manifestations include a sensation of deficiency-heat in the upper Jiao (Upper Burner), specifically between the chest and diaphragm, dry mouth, irritability, and high fever in the hands and feet.
[Xue Ji] For the aforementioned conditions: if caused by invasion of external pathogens, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) with added Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong) and Fangfeng Radix Saposhnikoviae (Fangfeng). If due to Liver deficiency and blood insufficiency, use Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill). If there is Stomach fire accompanied by a preference for cold drinks, use Qian's Xiehuang San (Drain the Spleen Powder). If there is Stomach deficiency accompanied by a preference for hot soups, use Qiwei Baizhu San (Seven-Ingredient Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder). For tidal fever or periodic fever, use Bazhen Tang (Eight-Treasure Decoction). For afternoon (Bushi) fever and internal heat, use Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder). For fever accompanied by physical fatigue, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction). For fever induced by anger, use Xiao Chaihu Tang (Minor Blue Green Dragon Decoction). For fever induced by depression and anger, use Jiaweigui Pi Tang (Modified Heart-Spleen Tonifying Decoction). For fever occurring at Yin, Mao, You, and Xu hours, use Shengyang Yiwang Tang (Raise Yang and Benefit the Stomach Decoction).
