[Da] The condition of continuous postpartum lochia (postpartum vaginal discharge) arises from the deficiency and insufficiency of menstrual blood damaged after childbirth, or from incomplete expulsion of stasis blood during delivery that remains in the abdomen. Coupled with pre-existing cold in the zang-fu organs, this leads to disharmony of qi and blood, causing lochia to drip continuously.
[Xue] For the aforementioned syndromes: if liver qi is hot and fails to control blood, use Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill). If liver qi is deficient and fails to store blood, use Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder). If spleen qi is deficient and fails to contain blood, use Liujunzi Tang (Six-Gentlemen Decoction). If stomach qi sinks and fails to manage blood, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction). If spleen channel depression-heat causes blood to fail to return to its source, use Jiaweigui Pi Tang (Modified Spleen-Tonifying Decoction). If liver channel fire-stagnation causes reckless blood movement, use Jiawei Siwu Tang (Modified Four-Substance Decoction). If both qi and blood are deficient, use Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten-Ingredient Great Tonifying Decoction). If liver channel wind-pathogen causes blood to boil, use Yiwei Fangfeng Wan (Single-Ingredient Saposhnikovia Pill). A certain puerpera had continuous dripping lochia, fatigue, sallow complexion, poor appetite, aversion to cold, insomnia day and night, palpitations, and sweating; this was deficiency-heat of the spleen channel, treated with Jiaweigui Pi Tang until recovery. Later, due to anger, she experienced flank distension, vomiting, and reduced food intake; she was treated with Liujunzi Tang added with Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) until recovery.
