Fei Shi (Flying Corpse) refers to pathogenic factors wandering through the skin and penetrating the Zang-Fu organs. Each attack causes stabbing pain, with unpredictable changes. Dun Shi (Lurking Corpse) attaches to bones and muscles, attacking blood vessels. Attacks cannot be approached; they are triggered by seeing funerals or hearing crying. Feng Shi (Wind Corpse) flows into the four limbs, causing numbness where pain location is unknown. Attacks cause drowsiness and are triggered by wind and snow. Chen Shi (Sinking Corpse) entangles bones and knots in the viscera, rushing to the heart and hypochondrium. Attacks feel like twisting pain and are triggered by cold. Zhu Shi (Poured Corpse) causes whole-body heaviness, mental confusion, and frequent dizziness. Major exacerbations occur at solar term changes. All five types should be treated with Honeysuckle Leaf (Jinyinhua Ye, 忍冬叶), chopped and boiled in large quantities to make a concentrated decoction, processed into pills the size of a chicken egg, taken three times daily.
A person who is usually healthy suddenly appears dead: body motionless, silent and unaware, eyes closed and unable to open, jaw clenched and unable to speak, or slightly aware but averse to human voices, feeling only dizzy and confused, waking up after some time. This is caused by excessive sweating leading to blood deficiency, with Qi merging into Blood, Yang rising alone without descending, Qi stagnating and failing to circulate, thus the body appears dead. When Qi moves and Blood returns, Yin and Yang reconnect, hence waking up after some time. This condition is named Yu Mao (Depression Dizziness) or Xue Jue (Blood Syncope), common in women. Baiwei Tang (White Anemone Decoction) and Cang Gong San (Cang Gong Powder) are suitable.
Zhu Danxi said: When people suddenly have cold extremities, skin raised like millet grains, blue-black head and face, mental confusion, delirious speech, locked jaw, or fainting/collapse, especially when attending funerals, entering temples, or visiting tombs, this disease often occurs. First administer Suhexiang Wan (Styrax Pill), then treat with Tiaoqi San (Qi-Regulating Powder, see Miscellaneous Diseases - Qi disorders) and Pingwei San (Stomach-Pacifying Powder, see Miscellaneous Diseases - Food retention). *Yuji Wei Yi* states: For sudden syncope, Fei Shi, Ke Wu (Guest Malevolence), Gui Ji (Ghost Strike) with locked jaw, use Mahuang Tang (Ephedra Decoction, see Shanghan Taiyang chapter). For Han Jue (Cold Syncope) with exterior heat and interior cold, presenting with diarrhea of undigested food, vomiting upon eating, deep pulse, and cold extremities, use Sini Tang (Frigid Extremities Decoction, see Shanghan Jue chapter). For Re Jue (Heat Syncope) with abdominal fullness, heavy body difficult to turn, dirty complexion, delirium, urinary incontinence, cold extremities, spontaneous sweating, and deep slippery pulse, use Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction, see Miscellaneous Diseases - Fever chapter). Yang Yongxing of the Jin Yi Wei (Embroidered Uniform Guard) family was avoiding disaster; a servant got drunk and failed to hide. Later he became mentally dull with widespread bruising. Decoctions of Jinyin Teng (Honeysuckle Stem, i.e., Honeysuckle Leaf) were administered separately and he recovered. A woman suddenly became confused and delirious, claiming: "Because I previously defrauded someone of silver, a deity blames me and sends you to be tried by the City God." Her ankles, knees, and buttocks were swollen and blue, unbearable pain, crying out in suffering. She woke the next day, pain persisting. Two taels of Jinyin Teng were decocted in water and taken orally, resulting in recovery. Another woman entered an ancient tomb and suffered the same condition; Zijin Ding (Purple Gold Tablet) ground into juice was administered, and she revived. Tongzheng Yu Zihua and Taichang Wang Yongzhi both died while mourning at a funeral house; it is likely these cases refer to this syndrome. Taiyi Shenjing Dan (Formula see Miscellaneous Diseases - Delirium), Suhexiang Wan (Formula see Miscellaneous Diseases - Stroke), Xiong Zhu San (Formula see Miscellaneous Diseases - Delirium).
Baiwei Tang
Baiwei (Anemones Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (each 1 liang); Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (0.5 liang); Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) (2.5 qian).
Cut the herbs. Take 5 qian per dose, add 2 zhan of water, decoct to 1 zhan, take warm.
Cang Gong San Treats sudden Gui Ji (Ghost Strike), Gui Zhu (Ghost Infestation), Gui Ci (Ghost Stabbing), heart/abdomen pain like stabbing, hematochezia, immediate death with loss of consciousness, sleep paralysis with insensible teeth/toes, and various toxic gas diseases.
Gua Di (Thladianthae Fructus) powder (*Jiu Weisheng Fang* has no Gua Di powder, but has Zaojiao [Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina] powder).
Lilu (Veratrum Nigrum Rhizoma) powder, Xionghuang (Realgar), Fanshi (Alumen) (ground, equal parts).
Grind into fine powder, mix well. Blow a small amount into the nose. If sneezing occurs and bowels move, life is restored. If no sneeze, blow again until sneezing occurs. This medicine can revive the dead; perhaps Zaojiao is the correct ingredient.
Buyi Neibi San Supplemental Intranasal Powder Treats Shi Jue (Corpse Syncope) with pulsating pulse but no breath, Qi blockage, quiet as if dead, named Cu Jue (Sudden Syncope).
Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) (remove hairs, grind to powder).
Use a quantity equivalent to two Chinese characters' weight, blow into the nose to enter, simultaneously place Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex) powder under the tongue.
Liuhuang San Sulfur Powder Treats Shi Jue (Corpse Syncope) with sudden death, cold extremities, unconsciousness, and abdominal Qi moving like thunder rumbling.
Yanxiao (Natrii Nitras), Liuhuang (Sulfur).
Grind finely, divide into three doses. Mix with wine and administer. After walking five li, give another dose. Recovery occurs within three doses.
