于胞门;或中经脉,流传脏腑而发下血,名为带下。若伤足厥阴肝之经,其色则青如泥色;
To treat Xueshan Beng (massive uterine bleeding resembling an avalanche).
Can Sha (Silkworm Excrement) (1 liang), Fulonggan (Dragon's House Soil) (0.5 liang).
Grind both into fine powder, mix with wine, and take 2 qianbi.
Qianjin Fang treats continuous bleeding from Beng (uterine bleeding). Qianjin Yi Fang does not include Baomao Gen.
Baomao Gen (White Thatch Root) (2 jin), Xiaoji Gen (Cirsii Herba) (5 jin. Another version lacks Xiaoji Gen).
Finely cut the above two ingredients, use 5 sheng of wine, boil to obtain 4 sheng. Remove the dregs, divide into four warm doses.
For women suffering from Bengzhong (central uterine bleeding), regardless of duration, all can be treated.
Fulonggan (Dragon's House Soil) (1 jin), Xiaoji Gen (Cirsii Herba), Sangjisheng (Taxilli Caulis), Xuduan (Dipsaci Radix), Diyu (Sanguisorbae Radix), Aiye (Artemisiae Argyi Folium) (each 3 liang), Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chishizhi (Kaolinite), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) (each 2 liang), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (5 liang).
Finely cut the above ten ingredients, use 1 dou of water, boil to obtain 3 sheng, strain to remove dregs, divide into three doses. Observe usual dietary restrictions.
The discussion states: What are Bengzhong and Daixia? The answer is: There are five types of this disease. When a disease invades the human body, there is always a specific site of invasion; the signs of its onset must be studied with utmost care. I have searched medical texts, which only mention differences in color and form of Daixia (leukorrhea); this fails to comprehend the principles of medicine expounded by sages. Moreover, Wubeng (Five Types of Uterine Bleeding) is an extremely severe affliction for women, and it is the most difficult to treat. Later scholars fail to recognize its origin. I studied medical prescriptions since childhood to benefit the public through medication; I should strive to follow the way of saving lives. However, I have pondered this matter for a long time and found it quite profound. This disease arises from injury by wind-qi and cold-heat pathogens, or from rising early after childbirth without avoiding wind-cold, allowing wind-cold qi to enter the Baomen (uterine gate); or it enters the meridians, spreads to the zang-fu organs, and causes lower bleeding, named Daixia. If the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian is injured, the color is green like mud; if the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian is injured, the color is red like red fluid; if the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian is injured, the color is white like mucus; if the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian is injured, the color is yellow like rotting melon; if the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian is injured, the color is black like clotted blood. These are the causes.
Question: Wind-cold qi invades everyone, why do only women suffer from this disease? Answer: The Zang-Fu organs are the same in men and women, but there are subtle differences. Because women have Baomen and Zizang (uterus), when wind-cold invades them, they become ill; whereas men would suffer from other diseases.
Another question: Why is it named Daixia? Are there distinctions between cold and heat? Answer: There are many meridians with different names. Among the Eight Extraordinary Vessels, the Dai Mai (Girdle Vessel) encircles the waist like a belt, and the disease arises below the Dai Mai. The terms cold and heat refer to the nature of the pathogen. Also called "Bengzhong," this is another name for Daixia. Gentlemen who pay attention to medicine and wish to prepare themselves can deduce this principle; doing so will ensure no mistakes.
