Treating postpartual restlessness and oppression. Puhuang San (Powder of Puerariae Radix).
Use Puhuang (Polygoni Orientalis Herba), mixed with flowing water from the east, taken in a dose of Fangcunbi (a traditional measuring spoon), which is extremely effective.
Usually, to treat various types of deficiency-heat with restlessness, Zhuyeshigao Tang (Decoction of Lophatheri Herba and Gypsum Fibrosum) and Wendan Tang (Decoction for Warming the Gallbladder) are used. However, one must not realize that the postpartum state differs from ordinary conditions; drugs such as Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) should not be lightly used, as their use will inevitably lead to death.
The discussion states: What is the cause of dry mouth and epigastric oppression after childbirth? The answer is: After childbirth, Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) are greatly deficient, and Blood and Qi have not yet stabilized. If noodles are consumed too early, the Stomach cannot digest them. The "noodle toxin" accumulates in the Epigastrium, steaming upwards into the Chest, causing dry mouth and thirst, and oppression below the heart. Physicians who do not recognize this condition may mistakenly diagnose it as obstruction in the Chest and Diaphragm and use purgatives to drain it; this approach is highly dangerous. One should simply take Jianxian Wan (Pill of Seeing the Present) to achieve recovery.
Jianghuang (Curcumae Longae Rhizoma), Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma), Bichengqie (Schzschepii Fructus), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Liangjiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Ezhu (Curcumae Phaeocaulis Rhizoma) (in equal parts).
Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. Soak Radish, boil until soft, grind finely, and extract the juice. Use the juice to make a paste with flour to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take thirty pills with Radish decoction.
Commentary: Postpartum dry mouth and epigastric oppression are not necessarily only caused by eating noodles. It may also result from internal accumulation of worry and vexation in the mother, external invasion of dryness-heat, or consumption of sweet and pungent foods, leading to dry mouth and oppression. Treatment should be adjusted according to the specific cause. For vexation of the Heart, Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) without Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), added with Renshen (Ginseng Radix) and Wumei (Mume Fructus), should be decocted and taken. If caused by external dryness-heat, treatment should follow the affected Meridian, which is difficult to list exhaustively. For injuries due to diet, Jianxian Wan (Pill of Seeing the Present) can be effective.
