Qinlian Siwu Decoction (Scutellaria and Coptis Four Substances Decoction), Digupi Yin (Lycium Bark Drink), Jiao'ai Siwu Tang (Donkey-hide Gelatin and Moxa Four Substances Decoction), Qinshu Siwu Tang (Scutellaria and Atractylodes Four Substances Decoction), Taohua Siwu Tang (Peach Blossom Four Substances Decoction), Danggui Buxue Tang (Angelica Sinensis Tonifying Blood Decoction), Shengyu Tang (Sage Renewal Decoction), Jiangqin Siwu Tang (Ginger and Scutellaria Four Substances Decoction), Foshou San (Buddha's Hand Powder), Xiong Gui Tang (Ligusticum and Angelica Decoction).
For early menstruation (premature menses) due to excess heat, use Qinlian Siwu Tang; for deficiency heat, use Digupi Yin with Moutan Cortex. For excessive bleeding without heat, use Jiao'ai Tang; for excessive bleeding due to heat, use Qinshu Siwu Tang to harmonize. To dispel blood stasis, use Tao Ren (Peach Kernel), Hong Hua (Carthamus Flower), Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root), Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus), and Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber). If the volume is low and pale, it indicates Qi deficiency failing to control blood; use Danggui Buxue Tang with Huangqi (Astragalus Root) to tonify. If deficiency is severe, use Renshen (Ginseng Root) and Huangqi with Shengyu Tang to tonify. For heat stagnation, use Jianghuang (Curcuma Longa Rhizome), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex), Fuzi (Aconite Lateral Root), and Yanshusuo (Corydalis Rhizome). To dispel stasis, use Foshou San, also known as Xiong Gui Tang, which is effective as if by magic.
[Note] When menstruation arrives early, if it belongs to excess heat, use Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) and Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome) to clear heat, named Qinlian Siwu Tang. If it belongs to deficiency heat, use Siwu Tang added with Digupi (Lycium Bark) and Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex) to cool blood, named Digupi Yin. If there is excessive bleeding without heat, use Siwu Tang added with Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin) and Aiyè (Artemisia Argyi Leaf) to stop bleeding, named Jiao'ai Siwu Tang. If there is excessive bleeding due to heat, use Siwu Tang added with Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) and Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) to harmonize, named Qinshu Siwu Tang. If there is excessive bleeding with clots, dark purple color, and thick viscosity, this indicates internal blood stasis; use Siwu Tang added with Tao Ren (Peach Kernel) and Hong Hua (Carthamus Flower) to break stasis, named Taohong Siwu Tang. Early menstruation with low volume and pale color indicates Qi deficiency failing to hold blood; use Danggui Buxue Tang to tonify, which consists of Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) and Huangqi (Astragalus Root). If deficiency is severe, use Siwu Tang added with Renshen (Ginseng Root) and Huangqi (Astragalus Root) to tonify, named Shengyu Tang. If menstrual flow is scanty and bright red, this indicates heat excess causing blood stagnation; use Siwu Tang added with Jianghuang (Curcuma Longa Rhizome), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex), Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome), and Yanshusuo (Corydalis Rhizome) to promote circulation, named Jiangqin Siwu Tang. To dispel blood stasis, one must use Foshou San, which is Siwu Tang minus Shengdi Huang (Rehmannia Root) and Baishao (White Peony Root), also known as Xiong Gui Tang; its efficacy in expelling blood stasis is miraculous.
Guoqi Yin (Delayed Menstruation Decoction).
For delayed menstruation due to Qi and Blood stagnation with distension and pain, use Taohong Siwu Tang modifications, or use Fuzi (Aconite Lateral Root), Ezhu (Curcuma Zedoary Rhizome), Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), Gancao (Licorice Root), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Root), and Mutong (Akebia Stem) to unblock collaterals. For delayed menstruation due to Blood deficiency without distension or pain, use Shuanghe Yin (Double Harmony Drink), Shengyu Tang (Sage Renewal Decoction), and Renshen Yangrong Tang (Ginseng Nourishing Younger Brother Decoction).
[Note] When menstruation is delayed, if it is due to Qi and Blood stagnation accompanied by distension and pain, treat with Guoqi Yin. Its formula consists of Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Tao Ren (Peach Kernel), Hong Hua (Carthamus Flower), Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome), Ezhu (Curcuma Zedoary Rhizome), Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), Gancao (Licorice Root), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Root), and Mutong (Akebia Stem). If menstruation is delayed without any distension or pain, this is because there is no blood to flow, indicating Blood deficiency; it is appropriate to use Shuanghe Yin (Double Harmony Drink), Shengyu Tang (Sage Renewal Decoction), and Renshen Yangrong Tang (Ginseng Nourishing Younger Brother Decoction).
