During pregnancy, before delivery, diseases such as morning sickness (Ezu), placental obstruction (Baoku), swelling and fullness, Qi stagnation with vexation, hanging pain, eclampsia (Zixian), cough (Zisou), urinary retention due to bladder displacement (Zhuanbao), and dysuria during pregnancy (Zilin), regular menstruation continuing during pregnancy without harm to the fetus (Jijing), threatened abortion with vaginal bleeding (Tailou), restless fetus with lower abdominal pain and bearing-down sensation (Taidong Bu'an), spontaneous abortion (Xiaochan), intrauterine fetal death (Sitai), fetal growth retardation (Tai Bu Zhang), loss of voice during pregnancy (Ziyin), visceral irritability syndrome (Zangzao), and hydatidiform mole (Guotai) are mentioned. Other pre-delivery conditions should be treated by referring to miscellaneous internal medicine diseases, but one must constantly protect the root of the fetus.
[Note] This refers to the pre-delivery stage of pregnancy, including conditions such as Ezu, Baoku, Zizhong (pregnancy edema), Ziman (abdominal distension in pregnancy), Zifan (pregnancy vexation), Zixuan (chest and hypochondriac fullness in pregnancy), Zixian, Zisou, Zhuanbao, Zilin, Jijing, Tailou, Taidong Bu'an, Xiaochan or Duotai, Sitai Fuzhong, Taiwei Buzhang, Ziyin, Zangzao, Guotai, etc. These syndromes must be distinguished in detail and memorized. Other conditions such as cold damage (Shanghan), food stagnation, malaria and dysentery, cholera, and diarrhea occurring during pregnancy should be referred to the miscellaneous disease section for treatment. However, it is crucial to constantly protect the fetal root and avoid violating contraindications.
Nausea and vomiting are named Ezu. If it is merely selective eating and any diet leads to relief after a while, no treatment is needed initially. For severe cases, medication is required, primarily addressing weak Stomach Qi, and further distinguishing between rebellious fetal Qi, phlegm-fluid obstruction, heat, or cold.
[Note] After a woman conceives for more than a month, frequent vomiting is called Ezu. If there are no other diseases and it is merely selective eating, one should follow her desires and provide appropriate food. Mild cases resolve naturally after some time without medication; severe cases require medicinal treatment. Treatment should focus on strengthening the weak Stomach Qi, while also examining whether it is caused by rebellious fetal Qi, obstruction by phlegm-fluids, or accompanied by heat or cold, treating accordingly.
Baosheng Tang (Protect Life Decoction)
For rebellious fetal Qi causing only vomiting without other accompanying symptoms, use Baosheng Tang. It contains Amomi Fructus (Sharen), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu), Linderae Radix (Wuyao), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi), and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao). Add Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) or Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhike) according to condition, using Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang) as a guide.
[Note] Ezu caused by rebellious fetal Qi occurs when the uterine opening closes after conception, obstructing the internal Qi of the viscera, which carries the fetal Qi upward to the Stomach, causing nausea and vomiting. If caused by chronic Stomach deficiency, even without phlegm-fluids and with mixed cold and heat, Ezu may still occur. In such cases, Baosheng Tang is suitable, composed of Sharen, Baizhu, Xiangfu, Wuyao, Chenpi, and Gancao. Shengjiang is used as a guide to stop vomiting. If Qi is deficient, add Renshen appropriately; if Qi is excess, add Zhike appropriately.
Jiawei Liujun Tang (Modified Six Gentlemen Decoction)
For Ezu caused by phlegm-fluids, characterized by vomiting much phlegm-water, accompanied by mental restlessness and dizziness, use Jiawei Liujun Tang. It includes Eriobotryae Folium (Pipaye), Agastaches Herba (Huoxiang), Inulae Flos (Xuanjinhua), Amomi Fructus (Suosha), and Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhike). If accompanied by heat and constipation, add Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin) and Rheum Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang) to promote purgation; if accompanied by cold and preference for warmth, add Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui) and Zingiberis Rhizoma (Ganjiang) to warm.
[Note] Ezu caused by phlegm-fluids involves vomiting copious phlegm-water, along with mental restlessness and dizziness of the head and eyes. This indicates chronic Stomach deficiency with stagnation of phlegm-fluids in the middle Jiao. Jiawei Liujun Tang is suitable, which is Liujun Tang added with Pipaye, Huoxiang, Xuanjinhua, Suosha, and Zhike. If Stomach heat causes constipation, add Huangqin and Dahuang to clear and purge; if Stomach cold causes preference for warmth, add Rougui and Ganjiang to warm.

Jiawei Wendan Tang (Modified Warm Gallbladder Decoction)
For Ezu caused by heat obstruction leading to anorexia and preference for cool drinks, accompanied by mental restlessness and oppression, use Jiawei Wendan Tang. It contains Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi), Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia), Poria (Fuling), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhishi), and Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu). Add Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Phragmitis Rhizoma (Lugen), and Ophiopogonis Radix (Maimendong), using Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang) as a guide.
[Note] Ezu caused by Stomach heat involves vomiting, mental heat and restlessness, chest oppression, and a desire to drink cool liquids. Jiawei Wendan Tang is suitable. The formula consists of Chenpi, Banxia, Fuling, Gancao, Zhishi, and Zhu Ru (named Wendan Tang), plus Huangqin, Huanglian, Lugen, and Maimendong, with Shengjiang as a guide.
