Question 9 of the Heart:
Heart heat: Observe the child's sleep; if the breath from the mouth is warm, or if the child sleeps face down, and grinds teeth while looking upward, these are all signs of heart heat. Lead Chi San (Cinnabar Decoction) is the primary prescription. When heart qi is hot, the chest and heart area also feel hot; the child may wish to speak but cannot, and has a desire for coolness, hence sleeping face down. If heart qi is excess, the movement of qi up and down becomes obstructed; sleeping face down further blocks this flow, so the child prefers lying on their back to allow qi to circulate freely. Xie Xin San (Drain the Heart Powder) is the primary prescription. In heart disease, if the pulse is excessively strong in winter (when water should control fire), indicating heart fire overcoming kidney water, one should tonify the kidney and treat the heart. In mild cases, the disease recedes; in severe cases, symptoms such as downward deviation and muteness appear, indicating kidney deficiency and weakness.
Lead Chi San: See Question 8.
Xie Xin San: Treats conditions where phlegm and qi excess in the heart cause obstructed qi movement; sleeping face down blocks qi, so the child prefers lying on their back to facilitate free circulation.
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1 liang, remove stamens):
Grind into fine powder. Take half a qian or one qian per dose, administered with warm water before bedtime.
Question 10 of the Spleen:
Spleen and stomach disharmony: The complexion is pale without luster, breath from the mouth is cold, there is no appetite, and vomiting of clear fluid occurs. Tonify the spleen; Yi Huang San (Yellow Protecting Powder) is the primary prescription. Spleen and stomach deficiency-cold: The complexion is white and dull, the body is emaciated with abdominal pain, and there is no appetite. Tonify the spleen with Yi Huang San; if accompanied by diarrhea, Tiao Zhong Wan (Regulate the Middle Pill) is the primary prescription. Wind injury causing cold hands and feet indicates spleen weakness; harmonize the spleen first, then disperse wind-cold. Harmonize the spleen with Yi Huang San; disperse wind-cold with Da Qing Wan (Great Blue Pill). If spleen disease affects the surrounding organs, treat according to this principle. Favorable patterns are easy to treat; adverse patterns are difficult. Spleen weakness typically presents with a reddish-yellow complexion; when the five zang organs' energies conflict, treat according to the specific syndrome.
Yi Huang San: See Question 8.
Da Qing Gao (Great Blue Ointment): See Question 8.
Tiao Zhong Wan: Identical to Li Zhong Wan (Regulate the Middle Pill), can also be prepared as a decoction with similar effects. See Question 53.
Question 11 of the Lung:
Lung excess compounded by cold wind: Chest fullness, shortness of breath,急促 breathing, coughing, and rebellious qi. First, dissipate lung pathogenic factors, then disperse wind-cold. Dissipate lung pathogenic factors with Xie Bai San (Drain the White Powder). If the lung is only affected by cold damage, chest fullness will not occur. Lung heat causes the child to pinch the eyebrows, eyes, nose, and face; Gan Jie Tang (Licorice and Platycodon Decoction) is the primary prescription. Lung deficiency-heat: Lips are deep red. To dissipate lung deficiency-heat, administer small doses of Xie Bai San. Lung weakness: Lips are white. Tonify the lung; E Jiao San (Donkey-Hide Gelatin Powder) is the primary prescription. If there is mental restlessness, coarse breathing,急促 panting, and choking sensations, the condition is difficult to treat due to lung deficiency and damage. Chronic spleen and lung diseases lead to deficiency and white lips. Since the spleen is the mother of the lung, if both mother and child are deficient, they fail to nourish each other, hence termed "weakness." The lung governs the lips; white lips with luster indicate a good prognosis, while white lips like dry bones indicate death. Lung disease appearing in spring suggests lung overacting on liver; tonify the liver and kidney, and treat the lung. Liver weakness leads to disease. Tonify liver and kidney with Di Huang Wan (Rehmannia Pill); treat the lung with Xie Bai San. Lung disease appearing in spring, with excessive lung qi overcoming the liver, requires draining the lung. In mild cases, lung disease recedes; in severe cases, the eyes appear pale green, convulsions are likely, and if redness is present, spasms may occur, indicating liver weakness, which manifests as pale green eyes.
Xie Bai San: See Question 8.
Gan Jie Tang: Treats wind-heat and toxic vapors attacking upwards, causing sore throat, throat closure with swelling and obstruction, lung congestion with cough, expectoration of pus and blood, chest fullness with chills, dry throat and thirst, frequent discharge of turbid saliva, foul-smelling blood and qi, chronic expectoration of pus resembling congee. Also treats sore throat due to cold damage.
Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, 2 liang) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang):

Add Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba) and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) to name Ru Sheng Tang (Like Sage Decoction); if heat is severe, add Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), and Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma).
E Jiao San: Treats cough, lack of lung fluids,急促 panting, and lung deficiency with cough, choking sensations, and sounds in the throat.
Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla, 1.5 liang, stir-fried with clam powder) Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus, 2.5 qian, stir-fried until fragrant) Muduling (Aristolochiae Fructus, 0.5 liang, baked) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian, honey-fried) Xingren (Prunus Armeniacae Semen, 7 kernels, peel and remove tips) Nuomi (Oryza Sativa Glutinosa, 1 liang):
Grind into fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, decoct with one cup of water until reduced to 0.6 cups, strain, and take warm after meals.
Di Huang Wan: See Question 8.
