Infants and children who contract latent summerheat in autumn or summer often present with heat-type vomiting. How can this be differentiated? Some infants may vomit yellow saliva, have a warm forehead, heat in the five centers (palms, soles, and chest), dark and scanty urine, dry lips accompanied by irritability and thirst. First, allow the nursing mother to take Xiangru San (Elsholtzia Powder) and Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria); the infant should take Zhuru Tang (Bamboo Shavings Decoction) and Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria). If the heat is severe, Da Chaihu Tang (Major Bupleurum Decoction) without Dahuang (Rhubarb Root) may be taken, or Xiao Chaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) is also acceptable; if the heat is extreme, Dachengqi Tang (Major Order the Qi Decoction) may be administered, with miraculous efficacy. Yulu San (Jade Dew Powder) may also be taken.

When infants are exposed to wind-cold, or consume excessive amounts of raw or cold fruits and vegetables, cold stagnates in the stomach and abdomen, leading to vomiting of food or milk. Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) should be used as the primary treatment. Alternatively, Nairu Fa (Breast-feeding Method), Xiaoru Wan (Digest Milk Pill), Yigong San (Extraordinary Efficacy Powder), Xiangpo San (Aucklandia and Magnolia Bark Powder), Fuling Banxia Tang (Poria and Pinellia Decoction), Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction), Renshen San (Ginseng Powder), and Mochen San (Musk and Agarwood Powder) may all be administered.
Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) See Question 53.
Nairu Fa (Breast-feeding Method) This refers to treating newborns using surface-level medications. For conditions involving fetal heat, the nursing mother should take medication rather than seeking rapid effects on the infant. The treatment method involves allowing the medicine to pass through breast milk to gradually resolve the condition, ensuring high safety. If cold-natured drugs are used directly to attack the pathogen, it will inevitably damage the spleen and stomach, causing vomiting and leading to serious complications.
Zexie (Alisma Rhizome, 2.5 liang), Zhuling (Polyporus, skin removed), Chi Fuling (Red Poria), Tianhuafen (Trichosanthes Root, 1.5 liang each), Sheng Dihuang (Rehmannia Root, 2 liang), Shan Yinchen (Artemisia Capillaris), Gancao (Licorice Root, 1 liang each).
Crush the herbs. Take 5 qian per dose, add one zhan of water, decoct until 0.6 zhan remains. Administer after meals, after expressing some old milk.
Xiaoru Wan (Digest Milk Pill) See Question 60.
Yigong San (Extraordinary Efficacy Powder) See Question 17.
Xiangpo San (Aucklandia and Magnolia Bark Powder) See Question 60.
Fuling Banxia Tang (Poria and Pinellia Decoction) Treats various types of vomiting, epigastric hardness and fullness, and dizziness with palpitations due to phlegm-fluid retention in the diaphragm.
Fuling (Poria, 2 liang), Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, 5 qian, soaked in boiling water seven times).
Crush the herbs. Take 3 qian per dose, add one zhan of water and three slices of fresh ginger, decoct until 0.6 zhan remains.
Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction) Treats disorders caused by phlegm-fluid retention, such as vomiting and nausea, dizziness and palpitations, epigastric discomfort, alternating chills and fever, or spleen injury due to raw and cold foods.
Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, soaked in boiling water), Juhong (Citrus Reticulata Peel, 5 qian each), Bai Fuling (White Poria, 3 qian), Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root, 1.5 qian).
Crush the herbs. Take 3 qian per dose, add one zhan of water, three slices of fresh ginger, and one dark plum, decoct until 0.7 zhan remains. Strain and administer warm.
Renshen San (Ginseng Powder) Treats coldness in the internal organs of infants. If the infant vomits immediately after feeding milk or food, or if vomiting occurs after feeding due to fright or disturbance, presenting with external signs such as cyanotic face and lips, heat in the palms and soles, excessive clear saliva, continuous vomiting, or diarrhea with stools that are green, yellow, purple, white, or resembling mucus and egg whites, this powder is suitable.
Renshen (Ginseng Root, rhizome removed), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, stir-fried), Bai Fuling (White Poria), Jiang Chenxiang (Agarwood), Wuyao (Lindera Root), Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root, 0.5 liang each).
Grind into fine powder and store in a bottle. For infants with the aforementioned symptoms: half a zi for six-month-olds, half a qian for two- to three-year-olds, and one qian for older children. Mix with jujube rice water or decocted Chen Zisu (Perilla Leaf) soup for administration. If vomiting and diarrhea occur simultaneously, administer with Dingxiang Tang (Clove Decoction); Chenpi Tang (Tangerine Peel Decoction) is particularly effective.
Chenxiang San (Agarwood Powder) See Question 16.
