年生女。
Zhu Huaizhu was in the prime of life. Due to indiscreet behavior while staying away from home, he contracted syphilis (Yangmei Chuang). Fearing that others would find out and wishing to return home quickly, he sought a rapid cure. He used external fumigation daily, but it was ineffective; he frequently washed with medicinal water, but it did not heal; then he applied powdered medicine directly to the sores, and took three decoctions per day. For two months like this, not only did the sores fail to heal, but the toxin was driven inward.
In the lower part, the anus prolapsed by more than two cun, surrounded by sores dense as mushrooms, which could not be reduced, making walking and sitting impossible. In the upper part, the toxin entered the lungs, causing wheezing, coughing, and surging qi, with distension and stifling in the chest and diaphragm, preventing supine lying. There was internal heat and external aversion to cold, leading to the abandonment of sleep and diet; closing his eyes triggered delirious speech. The scrotum had nodules that were red, swollen, painful, and tender; sores on both legs spread and swelled. His spirit was confused, and he was carried home on a soft bed. His younger brother, Zhu Shaozhu, welcomed me to take his pulse. All six pulses were flooding (Hong), large, and rapid (Shu).
I told Shaozhu: "The disease is critical. Fortunately, he is young and strong, so it is still treatable. I cannot apply medication yet; wait until the stasis and toxins in his chest are expelled before administering oral medicine. Otherwise, if my medicine induces bleeding, it may cause him to doubt. Few friends in the city recognize this disease. A mistake would be disastrous. Be cautious, be cautious!" Shaozhu trusted me and insisted I prescribe medicine, but I refused. Seeing that I did not prescribe, Huaizhu invited Doctors Zhang and Cheng. At noon, after taking their medicine, at dusk he suddenly suffered severe wheezing and coughing, vomiting over a bowlful of purple-black blood clots resembling pus. The room was filled with a foul odor that was unbearable.
Huaizhu panicked. Shaozhu comforted him: "Do not fear. Dr. Sun predicted earlier that your chest distension was caused by fumigation forcing the toxin inward, pressing upon the lungs. Phlegm and blood stasis obstructed the lung orifices, leading to suppuration, hence the wheezing and inability to lie flat. This is confirmed by the flooding and rapid pulse. We must wait for the expulsion of these materials and then clear them, which will be easy. It has happened exactly as Dr. Sun said. His medicine is here; boil and drink it immediately." The prescription consisted of Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex), Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex), Baixianpi (Dictamni Cortex), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Yiren (Coicis Semen), and Tinglizi (Lepidii Semen). After ingestion, he experienced tenesmus (Li Ji Hou Zhong) more than twenty times, passing large amounts of black-purple purulent blood. The wheezing and coughing subsided slightly, and the redness in the sputum faded somewhat. After two or three doses, he could finally rest his head on the pillow and sleep.
Subsequently, the formula was changed to Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baixianpi, Gancao, Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Zaojiaoziren (Gleditsiae Sinensis Semen), Yiren, Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), and Mutong. After two doses, the swelling of the sores on the heels and ankles gradually subsided. That night, approximately two bowls of foul-smelling purulent blood were discharged from the scrotum. The next morning, the pulses at both Chi positions were no longer flooding. The previous formula was continued with Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) added, for another two doses. Thick crusts formed on the scrotum, splitting horizontally. Three days later, the skin and flesh fell off along the crack, weighing about five to six liang, with a thickness of half a cun. The color resembled pig liver, revealing the two testes covered by a thin, white membrane. This was shocking and rare in history. The family believed the scrotum was vital and, having no sons, feared that even if healed, fertility would be lost. They wept bitterly around him.
I advised them: "The toxin is gone, and the True Yuan (Zhen Yuan) is undamaged. I can regenerate the flesh as before, without affecting fertility. Do not worry excessively." The family remained skeptical. I immediately applied Hongfenshuang (Red Powder Frost) mixed with a flesh-regenerating powder to the wound, three times a day. There was no pain, and the discharge dried up immediately. Externally, a regimen of Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Danggui, Jiuchao Baishao (Wine-fried Paeoniae Radix Alba), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Gancao, Baixianpi, Zaojiaoziren, Yiren, and Heshouwu (Polygoni Multiflori Radix) was used for one month to regulate the body. The scrotal skin fully regenerated, and all symptoms resolved.
He was instructed to cook half a jin each of Tufuling (Smilacis Glabrae Rhizoma) and pork until very soft. The meat was seasoned with sauce and salt as usual, and the broth was drunk as tea. He recovered completely. The following year, a daughter was born.
