Mr. Siweng, the retired official titled "Shao Du Jian Lao Feng Jun," was over seventy years old. His right hand and foot were numb and weak, unable to function properly, and his gait was impaired. After taking two doses of Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) added with Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuanxiong Radix), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Coicis Semen (Yiren), large Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Lateralis Radix), Cornu Cervi Gelatinum (Lujiaojiao), Astragali Radix (Huangqi), and Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi), he was able to walk. After four doses, his hands and feet became strong; every deep winter he would take more than ten doses, which improved his spirit, appetite, and sleep. The gentleman happily said, "Having obtained your prescription and taken it, I can avoid using a cane; does your decoction deserve my walking stick?" Alas!

Mr. Cheng Chaofu from Tai Tang, whose son was named Wanli, was fifteen years old. In summer, he suffered from dysentery. A clan physician treated him for a month; although the dysentery stopped, his tendons and bones swelled and hurt, the painful areas felt hot, symptoms were lighter during the day and heavier at night, muscles wasted away, appetite decreased, and he felt irritable. Physicians treated him as if he had Baihu Lijie Feng (White Tiger Joint Pain Wind), but the disease worsened until his body emaciated and bones stood out. Others treated him as He Xi Guchui Feng (Crane Knee Drumstick Wind); the more the methods changed, the worse the condition became. Among his family members was Cheng Songgu, a well-read and virtuous gentleman, who was the great-grandfather of Chaofu's lineage. Because I achieved many miraculous cures while practicing in Xiwu, he ordered Chaofu to invite me. Upon arrival, I examined his pulse, which was fine and choppy throughout. I said, "This is Dysentery-After Wind." It is caused by improper treatment of dysentery, leading to the stagnation of cold-dampness, filth, and blood stasis in the meridians. Over time, qi and blood are damaged by pain. This condition involves both deficiency and excess, making it extremely difficult to recognize and treat. If tonifying deficiency, swelling worsens; if promoting circulation, pain intensifies. Only Dafangfeng Tang (Great Wind-Protecting Decoction) from *Ju Fang* can cure this disease. Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Shudi (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baishao (White Peony Root), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), and Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex) each 1 qian; Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 1.5 qian; Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Gancao (Licorice Root), and Huiyang (likely referring to a specific preparation or herb contextually linked to warming yang, though strictly 'Huiyang' is not a standard single herb name in modern pharmacopoeia, often implies warming agents like Rougui or similar in historical contexts, here kept as transliteration or specific local term if unknown, but based on WHO standards, likely refers to a warming component. Given the context of "Huiyang" alongside other herbs, it might be a typo for a specific herb or a compound reference. However, sticking to extraction: "Huiyang" is listed. For translation, assuming it refers to a warming agent or keeping the pinyin if ambiguous. Let's assume it refers to a warming herb component or keep as Huiyang). *Correction*: In historical texts, "Huiyang" is rare as a single herb. It might be a typo for "Rougui" or similar, or refer to "Hui Yang" process. However, looking at the list, it stands alone. I will translate it as "Huiyang" noting its ambiguity or assume it refers to a warming property. Actually, checking common typos, it might be "Gui Pian" or similar. But strict adherence: "Huiyang". Let's use "Huiyang (Warming Yang Agent/Herb)". Wait, standard WHO terms don't have Huiyang. I will use "Huiyang" and note it's a specific term from the text. *Self-Correction*: In some editions, this might be "Rou Gui" or similar. But I must follow the text provided. Text says "回阳". I will translate as "Huiyang (Restoring Yang)". Qianghuo, Niuxi, Gancao, Huiyang each 0.5 qian; Chuanxiong 0.7 qian; add three slices of ginger, decoct in water and take orally. After taking thirty doses, he recovered.

Note: *Ju Fang* states: "When legs are weak and painful after dysentery, with difficulty walking, it is called Lifeng (Dysentery Wind); or when both feet swell and hurt, and the shins become withered like cured meat, it is called Hexifeng (Crane Knee Wind)." For all conditions involving numbness, paralysis, flaccidity, weakness, and wind-dampness complicated by deficiency, taking this formula yields miraculous results. Therefore, I used it, believing it treats Wei Jue (Flaccidity and Ataxia) caused by dual deficiency of qi and blood complicated by wind pathogen, not for treating initial excess diseases.
